Spndle Washer

The spindle washers that came of my vehicle both has part of the edges cut off making them more oblong or looking like a running track.

The manual shows full round washers.

Is this a problem? Why the cut off? It lets grease get out and dirt get in?

Manuals aren't written by the same people who design and build the cars. I don't remember any round ones on the 25 or so Hudsons I've monkeyed with.

Grease should not get out unless there is too much packed in the hub.

Dirt should not get in unless the cap falls off.

It's real handy to grab with a plier

Manufacture was simpler, cheaper dies, less scrap although it seems Hudson didn't scrimp anywhere else.
  • Everyone one in my local area, my father-in-law and my dad were/are surprised that the washer is not fully round. Every other vehicle that they have worked on from that era (up to a 67 Mustang) has fully round ones.

I found that interesting. I may see about getting some made.

With the Sindle Nut being cross-threaded, I thought maybe something had happened to the "OEM" washers.

    Thank you for the info.
