Tail Lamp Yoke and Socket

I am looking for two Yokes that will fit in the smaller, lower hole of the 48-50 tail light assembly.

I am upgrading turn signal units and the front lights came from the factory with a two wire socket but not a turn signal kit. A signal kit was added later and used the brake light interupt methode for the rear signals.

Rather than figure out the brake light by-pass, I will run new wire to the trunk and use the now vacant light socket.

  • Not to be rude, but have you tried a junk yard?
  • being a pacemaker you will need something like this to go in your lower socket.

What Dave is trying to say (politely) is that the bulbs used by Hudson were the 6 volt versions of the 12 volt bulbs which were used by american cars for like forever. For new, try NAPA LS6474 for double filament and LS6427 for single filament.

Honestly, no. I ask Hudson people first for Hudson parts.

I got enough blubs to last a life time plus some. In order to get one dual filament bulb for my OEM taillight, I had to purchase the entire box. Same for the parking lights up front.

I need the Yoke and Socket (like pictured above) but to fit the smaller, lower hole of the light assembly. The OEM yoke that is used to hold the brake/parking light is too big to fit the lower hole.

I have been successful in locating a Hudson OEM yoke and socket. A nive parts guy on this forum sent me a PM late last night and told me he had them.

Yep, that is the critter I seek or at least one that will fit the smaller, lower hole in the light assembly. My brake/parking light yoke and socket looks just like that. I have had to change bulbs so I do know what the part looks like.

See other post above. I have two on the way.

    Pacemaker500,

For what it's worth, on my '49 Super Six (smaller light assemblies like your '50 Pace) I'm pretty darn sure the two holes are the same size. I know because someone switched them around before. Of course, I speak from very limited experience (this is my only stepdown). I'm sure it could have been changed after my car was built. The picture that was posted of the socket does look somewhat different than mine.

(Also, for what it's worth) I'm also positive that my tail light wiring is original, and it calls for a dual filament bulb on top for the tail and brake lights, and a single filament on the bottom for the turn signal. My front lamps have dual filament bulbs, with the 'running' or 'parking' lights on the bright filament, and the turn signal on the dimmer filament. I think I'm going to switch that around this winter, in order to increase the brightness of my front turn signals. I rarely use the lights in the 'parking' position, anyway. The front turn signals are pretty invisible on a sunny day. I'm also thinking about installing halogen bulbs. This is on a converted to 12V system.

You know, you're right. I see now where I mis-measured.

I have the same for the top bulb - dual element. Turn signals were an aftermarket add on for my car. There is no signal wiring to the rear, thus no yoke and socket. But there will be now.

My fronts are dual element as well. But I think they were upgraded by the same person who put in the turn signals. The OEM wiring is only for the Parking lights. There is added wire for the turn signal. But the socket and bulb are dual element.
