Anyone have a 36 Terraplane block or spare engine they would like to sell? I sent mine in to have it boiled and checked for cracks and sure enought, it's cracked through a head stud over to the cylinder.

Thanks

  • I have a motor out of a 35 terraplane. It was a low mileage, but would go through it before installling. Randy Maas 309-968-6157 or hetmaasfh@ntslink.net -- drop the het
  • Randy,

Thanks for the offer. The 36 engine is different than the 35 in some ways and I would like to put the correct engine back in. Let me see what turns up. I might get wild and drop a Twin-H in!

    Thanks again,

I have 2 '36 T engines, where are you located? I am in Southern CA. One of the engines was completely rebuilt and the other hasn't been rebuilt. They sat for about 4 years before I acquired them from the widow of a deceased member of our chapter. I am restoring a '36T and I have completely rebuilt the engine in my car. I just acquired these because anything for a '36 is hard to find!
  • Hello Richard,

I don't think we could get much farther apart, I'm in Ohio! Thanks for thinking of me though.
  • I probably know the answer to this already, but I'd feel bad if I didn't toss it out there for you:

I have a '37 T-plane engine I pulled this last fall. I'm pretty sure it's rusted up solid, but so far the heat riser is the only part on it that's spoken for.
  • Boozoo,

Thanks for the offer. I will keep that in mind in case I can't find a 36. That Hornet engine is starting to look good.

It's not too much trouble to switch a '35 block into a '36. You just have to replace the centre row of head studs, mount the water pump on the block, and swap the water jacket, or shift the pipe from the bottom to the top. Maniifolds are the same. You would have to beef up the front springs and stretch things under the hood considerably to fit a Hornet engine.

The Hornet engine is about as long as a Hudson flathead eight...Lots of work to get it in...firewall surgery, etc.
  • I agree the Hornet engine is a pipe dream, I was joking. I am a purest at heart and will continue to look for a 36. Although the pictures of the 37 At Barrett Jackson make me think I need two trucks. As always Geoff and junkcarfann, thanks for your help.
  • Which pictures are these?

I'm trying to create a '37 truck from a pile of parts and two parts trucks. LOL
  • BooZoo

Go back to page 5 and look under the heading "Hudsons at Barrett Jackson"

There is a 37 Terraplane truck that sold at the auction for $175K!
  • Ah got it... thanks!

I've seen that one. Looks mighty fine, but at $175K, you have to wonder what some people are smoking. :-/

If you want to upgrade to a modern Hudson engine, I have been told that a jet engine, 202ci, is a pretty good fit in a Terraplane.
