my hornet in transport

Well, the Hornet is on the truck and on it's way to NC from Portland OR. Nerve-racking to say the least.

If anybody happens to see a Texas Tan over Ivory 53 Hornet sedan with pinstriped flames on a truck in the next few days please let me know if my baby looks ok!

Ya, I'll tell you how it looks, as soon as I kidnap the driver and your car. Who are you using for the transport? I've used Passport and have been very pleased with their service.

aaadvantage auto transport. But I think they brokered it out to someone else. My company has apparently used them in the past to move other employee's cars out. I would have liked to used a closed carrier (especially this time of year) but work wouldn't pay for that.

How long is a transport like that ? Does the car sit in a motel parking lot over night in places ? And where might that be ???? LOL.. Good luck, Ron

Did your "A" key stick or is that the name of the company? :rolleyes: Couldn't you have paid a fee to upgrade to a closed carrier?

It looked good on the inside while I smoked my cigar! Don't worry, I left one of the windows down a little so the smell would be gone by the time it gets to NC.;)

Actually the car is coming from recently snowy OR to Raleigh NC. I wish I could have payed extra to enclose it, but with all the other costs of movig across the country I just couldn't afford it. The company doesn't pay to ship "hobby" stuff, so I jumped on the offer when asked. It's a driver, she'll be ok.

Its going to get snowed on snowing here in wyoming and iam thinking up north into montana and south into denver then east might get held up somewhere in this area.

When I moved from Pa. To Iowa last summer, You should have seen the look on the locals faces when the 1st thing out of the moving van was my 33 T8 coupe and the last thing out was my 21 Model T. All the household was in between them Being that this is a small town, they new we had arrived..

Good point. But, I don't think I could handle doing that drive again so soon. Especially with no reliable tunes. Plus, I'd probably be a couple days late with all you guys in the way!

mostly. headliner has been replaced. newer block with hydraulic lifters. Clifford 6into2 header with 2 pipes exiting out the pass side. and a pretty bad early 80's paint job.

but, she's a cruiser with only 86K on the odometer.

That's no lie! She arrived today all safe and sound on the same truck that picked her up 8 days ago. they shuffled the order some but everything seemed ok. The only damage was caused by Mother Nature. As far as I can tell some water seeped into the cracked paint and froze (probably in MT where the truck spent 2 days with a frozen air line), lifting up a chunk of paint. Right underneath the flame-line too. Superglue?

The weather must have been really bad because the whole front-end of the car was caked with road-salt. I know, I tasted it.

That paint issue could've been caused by the very cold temperatures. If the paint isn't adhered properly a few hours at -40 could've easily popped the paint right off the metal. I have an antique travel trailer that loses large patches of it's back yard paint job every time it gets that cold. Think of it as an easy way of prepping the body for the next repaint.

Don't worry about the bondo flaking off- that's been awhile in the works and it'll keep getting worse...if it really bothers you...grind it out, rough the bodywork - prime it with a color close to the base...and drive it for awhile.

That's what I'd do...
