I have seen a lot of styling models on ebay but this is the first I have seen for a convertible. Anyone know anything about this.

  • Judging from the appearance of the paint and fresh white plaster, I'd say it's a fraud. If it were truely a 55+ year old styling model, the paint would show signs of it and the plaster would have yellowed.
  • Dave,

we need to CSI this. You buy it and I will carbon date it to authenticate its age.
  • Sean,

How about if we let Annie buy it. After all, she's looking for one. Oh, the hours of pretend fun to be had.
  • Dave,

I know Annie wanted one she said so before she was kidnapped by the pirates.

OMG... this one had m rolling on the floor. Looks like Nick would be the better of the three of you at being a CSI detective.

They made it even easier, looks like a phone number on the bottom...

They were after her decoder ring and Daddy Warbucks money. And all the while all Sandy could say was "arf." Numbers on bottom might be a phone number. $65.00 for shipping...please.
  • Looks like someone sent the seller the 411 on this item he has changed the description.

Nick, when did Ruvolo make these and are they based on the factory casts?
  • Sorry, nothing against Mr. Rovulo's talent, but $400 bucks for a contemporary model? Did the seller buy this and then think he's going to flip it for some profit. Too much bread for this pup. Wish these sellers would be honest on their shipping charges, c'mon.....$65 get real!

I agree completely. As far as eBayer's shipping charges go, those with unique items may be more successful in their scam. But you would think that even greedy sellers would see similar items shipping for cost and make adjustments. I guess they're just blinded by greed that eBay helps to perpetuate.
  • He describes it as LIKE the models that Hudson styling department produced, not AS one of them...unless the ad has been modified. It's priced way high, for certain. And $65.00 to ship in the US? It had better be brought by a courier personally from start to finish, never leaving his sight for that money!

at least he adjusted it, but a pretty good mark up for somebody, i think Ruvolo sold then for $100 or so

His ad ran as long as i can remember as a staple in the miscellaneous section of the wtn. I would guess from at least the mid 80's until recent editions. possibly even earlier. i don't know any history but they were probably inspired by the styling models. i seam to recall a similar origional 46-47 model. he made two sizes and had castings of the 49 prototype pick-up (which he owns) the convertible, as well as 48-49 coupes and sedans. he may have made others also.
  • I sold an 1940 styling model at auction last July in Pa. It bought $695.00. I am not sure It was not a repro. itself and told that to the auctionier. So price not bad if someone has to have it. At least they are being honest.
