Below 72 degrees

Holy Mackeral Andy it's cold and being an old southern boy I don't like it when it gets below 72 degrees. This morning I was sitting warm and toasty in the house contemplating when I could get out and work on my Hudson when I spotted water running down one of my 8' windows. Yow! What's going on? This was real stream. I needed to get into my attic fast and see what was causing this. Unfortunately my ladder was laying outside and completely covered with ice. I can handle that! I got out my trusty Acetylene torch and lit up. With a couple of passes on each rung being careful not to change the molecular structure of the aluminum I was ready to set it in place. Up in the attic I found that the origin of the leak was from built up ice in a valley and it was just thawing out. There was nothing I could do about it and since we only get ice like this about every 10 years I thought "To Heck with it!", I'll be 78 by then and I probably won't care.
And Hi Dan and Rambo! Good to see you posting again. Loved you photos of your car.
Peace,
Chaz

Hey Chaz--
I hope all is well there. Heck of an ice storm. Everything here got a coating of ice that was/is close to a half of an inch thick. A big red oak (35-feet high or so) fell over on our property because of the ice load. Many branches broke off and fell, and others lots of trees are drooping all the way down to the ground. The Hudson is in the cozy garage.

Hi Chaz!
I was on another forum and some guy was spouting off about "global warming" saying how he didn't get any snow this year and "the sky is falling...the sky is falling" mantra... I just replied with a picture of the snow covering my Hudson...
Not to get into a political diatribe about global warming but Yes, I believe this might be true - but I'll gaurantee warming trends have happened before in the earths history, and unless the rest of the planet joins in any of the TRILLIONS of dollars that we spend will be useless.
Besides the fact that 1 major Volcanic eruption spews more toxic materials than all the people the world over and would fix all the warming problems by cooling the earth off!
And I'll just say one more thing, remember the Tsunami in 04? It's was so powerful it knocked the Earth from its axis by 1 degree, so a lot of the changing weather patterns, such as Western Washington actully getting snow this year, were probably forced by that rather then Global Warming...oohhhhh!
BTW - 72 and sunny sounds like Heaven right now!0 -
Guess I'll stop griping about the cold here! At least we don't have any snow or ice!0

uhhh... I think you might wanna check that 1 degree figure, I heard it was more like .01 degrees...
when your talking planetary orbits, and rotations, 1 degree is so significant, that the change would be drastic to the planet.0 -

Darn the decimal system!
OF course you're right - but even a .01 degree change would have to alter weather patterns...at least in my semi-educated mind...:D0 -
The lows here have been -10 or so with the highs maybe making 20 for the past week or so. 72 is down right balmy!0

Having a heat wave here in Memphis - in the 30's. I say heat wave because, according to weatherchannel.com it was 3 degrees down in Maine, where I live 10½ months of the year.
Don't know how much snow they have down there - don't really care. As long as I can look out the window here and see grass, however brown.
But, yes, even in New England the winters, the past few years, have been mild. Last winter I paid a guy to plow my driveway @ $25 per storm. Had to pay out an incredible $75, 3 storms and one wasn't really that bad.
What we down-easters love to do do is stand around with the "newly arrived" outlanders, when we finally get one of those famous two foot + snow storms. We watch them panick, screaming "What the &*^% is THIS!!" Then we level 'em with that most famous saying - "THIS is a typical Maine winter!!" LOL ROF
So to my fellow HudNuts everywhere, enjoy it while you can - it WILL change again and Texas will be suffering drought, North Dakota will be in hibernation (along with the rest of the rust belt) and Hawaii will be 30 feet under water.
Hudsonly,

-12 around here, highs in the 20's. Balmy compared to West Yellowstone which was -51 the other day!0

Been cool around here...looking at lows in the mid to upper teens and highs in the upper 20s low 30s most of the time. Not as bad as it could be though, and there's no snow
. No ice either. Just too cold to drive the my Model A Phaeton
. No windows can cause problems in the cold...although I'm thinking about taking it out for a short drive here if I have the time.
