What an insult to all those who have served. But at least you know where your heart is.0 -
I applaud your efforts and understand your frustration.
But, unfortunately our world was changed in 2001 and I can see their security concerns to some point.
With 300 million Americans (not counting illegals:mad: ) if even a million kind hearted folks such as yourselves sent in un-solicited mail - who would screen them for cards/packages from war protesters? biochemicals? worse?
Perhaps there is a Veterans Organization that could facilitate screening and distribution of notes/cards/gifts to our most deserving vets.
Please don't think I'm taking "their" side (we're all together in this, like it or not) - I just wanted to thank you for your effort and maybe provide some ideas why there is a policy like this
Still - It might be worth some press to tell your local paper about the returned cards and note from WR maybe it can get some legs on its own and some good could still come from your efforts.
Thanks from me and Rambo for trying0 -
When I was in the service, I received a card similiar to this. At that particuliar time, We had just gotten mail for the first time in 90 days. Tired from the heat of hot Somalia days and being away from home for the holidays, It was very touching to know that someone OTHER than my immediate family knew what it was like and appreciated my service to our GREAT country. I APPLAUD your efforts- it shows the character of a kind and thoughtful person, irregardless of the destination of your cards.~ C.J.0

Don't you know that the current administration does not want you to even know these men and women are there. I also think you and anyone else who does what you did should be applauded.0

Not the current administration, it's the whole friggin' Federal government!0

I am so sick of these flippant Marxist rantings about our president and the administration. I have never heard anything so asinine in my life. The President and other conservatives have visited many veterans' hospitals; but you're not going to read that in the New York Times or the Washington Post or other various socialist ragsheets, or see it on the Communist News Network (CNN). A strong conservative leader is going to be trashed by the "drive-by media" regardless of who he may be or whatever decisions he may make whether it is George W. Bush or whoever. The "secular progressives" (candy-coated Marxists) have spent the last 60 years taking over our mass media, our entertainment industry, our education system, and the Democratic Party so that they can have a powerful platform from where to propagandize and make Marxism seem all warm and fluffy for the schoolkids and the soccer moms. The results of this last election take me right back to 1933; Adolf Hitler was also "duly elected" by the people by employing the exact same tactics: taking over the means of propaganda and spewing a continuous emotionalistic "Big Lie" rant so often that the masses believed it regardless of its idiocy, and thus drowning out all opportunity for the other side to present their case in logical debate.
Thank God for Fox News, the Washington Times, National Review and a few other microscopic handfuls of sane, level-headed journalism that are capable of asking meaningful questions of BOTH sides.
Even though the First Amendment protects everyone's right to speak their mind, it does NOT-- I repeat, NOT-- protect anyone from having their speech dissected, analyzed, and shot to little pieces by facts. It is called the "arena of ideas" and one should not enter it with flippancy and without being prepared to back it up with facts.
If you want to blame an administration, blame the administration of the vets' hospital who rather robotically followed a bureaucratic recommendation telling them to be suspicious of mass mailings rather than use their common sense. All bureaucracy, whether left wing or right wing, is by nature utterly devoid of wisdom. Even this hardcore conservative can neither agree with nor even fathom some of the things that have taken place within the last five years.
By the way, parenthetically, what does all this have to do with Hudsons, anyway?? The last time this forum took a political turn I tried to return to the thread, only to find it very unceremoniously deleted as if it had never existed. The Administrator has final say as to what stays in this forum and what goes. We waived our "First Amendment Rights" when we signed up to this forum as part of our conduct agreement, as I recall, and I believe he also asked us to stay away from politics. I think it would be more prudent to stick with what we have in common; namely a love for old orphan cars, particularly Hudsons.
I apologize if I ruffled a few feathers with my rant, but I believe mine is no more obtuse than some of the other rants I have heard from the other side, and probably somewhat less. I do not care to make enemies of those who share my love for Hudsons and other orphans, but I am not one to allow flippant, emotionalistic generalizations like that one to go unchallenged simply because they are constantly repeated in the editorial columns by those who should have enough intelligence to know better, but only care about furthering their own agenda in the name of the end justifying the means.

P. S. Thank you so much, Dan & Rambo, for your level-headed response. I second that.0 -

Actually it does. And all sides take advantage of it. And I believe any government we've had over the last number of years (no matter what party), in reality, couldn't care less about the everyday joe, it just makes for nice pr photo ops.

Pardon the question, but what does any of this have to do with the reason for this forum? Seems to me like a whole lot of bad sentiment getting stirred up for little reason.

Absolutely true. Again, I apologize; it's just that one of my biggest pet peeves is flippant, off-the-cuff statements that are 100% emotion and 0% logic, whatever the subject. I get enough of it from my wife(who thinks Hudsons are big ugly tanks  ); I shouldn't have to see it here 'cause I come here to escape that crap and to talk to people who enjoy Hudsons and other orphans and speak my language... that of the classic automobile.
