Have any of you Jet gurus seen this 4-door Jet apparently wth Twin-H?

I haven't seen any listings on this particular car. I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been cranked in over a decade. From the background of the picture, you'd think they have a spare tire laying around and would have thrown it on the car before taking the picture. If nothing else, it'd be easier to roll.
  • I wonder if it runs. For that money, it should run really well. My '53 SJ was $4400, and I was able to drive it home. For that matter, I really haven't had to do anything to it except add tranny fluid.

I've thought about fixing the tranny leak, but I figure if I get lost, I can just turn around and follow my fluid trail home. :)

    Royer,

Are you going to the Western Regional in April? I've got to hit you up or someone for a ride in a Jet. Everyone beats on them so hard, I would lkie to see for myself. It's a Hudson, it can't be too bad.??? Planning to caravan out with Quentin Roberts and maybe some others, assuming my old goat will make it. I've been working on it hard both mechanically and visually.
  • I had a ride in a Jet last summer. It was ok but no different than riding in an old ford or chevy...I didnt think it was any thing special. Certainly not like riding in a step down.

I'm planning on going to AZ. Originally I was hoping to take the "new" Commodore, but I don't think it will be ready for that long of a trip by April.

You're welcome to a ride in the Jet. See you in Mesa.

I know what you're saying. The packaging of the Jet has you sitting upright and looking down at the road (like a small SUV). When my Commodore got delivered I was really surprised at how close to the ground your butt sits and how far away from the windscreen you are.

My daily driver is a truck. ( I make my husband drive the family sedan!) :) Maybe that's why I took to the Jet?

Sounds like a Jet is like being in a pre stepdown Hudson. I sat in one of the CIC members 47 a couple of weeks ago and it was nothing like my 54.
  • At one time a friend of mine had a 54 Hollywood with a fresh .060 over 308 with twin H and a dual range hydro, and he raced against a stock 54 Jet with twin H and a dual range hydro, and the Jet was in front up to about 60 mph. I think the Jets would surprise a lot of stock Hornet owners in a 1/8 mile drag race.

I have three Jets, and haven't driven one yet. My Daughter's is coming along... It should be done in a couple of months...

  • I have heard more than one wise Hudson collector, who have had Jets, Stepdowns, and early cars, praise the Jet for being the most reliable and easiest to drive car in the Hudson arsenal. One in particular was a daily driver. I have yet to ride in or drive one to find out for myself, but my panel of experts gives the Jet a thumbs-up. Wouldn't mind to have one to knock around in-- drive it to the golf course and whatnot (Yeah right, like I have time for golf anymore). But, not that Jet, for that price!

Dany- you are right. The Jet definately surprised me as far as acceleration is concerned! Compared to a stepdown though, it handles like a walrus! If I had never had a stepdown, I wouldn't mind the Jet. Guess I'm just spoiled. Don't get me wrong, the Jet is a good car. It was designed to compete in a different class and pricing market than the stepdown.
  • We got a brand new Jet in 53 - I was all of 5 yrs old then , my Dad still had an older step-down too, the Jet served us well into the mid 60s after my Dad was gone - it finally got low oil pressure and we only drove it around town , it never did start knocking though ,my Mom later sold it to one of our neighbors.

I've had my Jet Liner for 35 years. Compared to the Hornet, it has a better transmission ratio (Hornet has single lever), vastly superior vision, easy to park, averages 25 m.p.g., and with the continental spare, has a huge trunk space. Seats 6 people easily. With o/d and 4.1 rear end, highway cruising keeping up with modern traffic is effortless. I have maintained for years that the Jet is the best "All round" car that Hudson ever made. I reckon I might do an article for the W.T.N. about the superiorities of the Jet, just to stir things up a bit!

Go for it Geoff, I enjoy reading your articles in the WTN.

I agree with Geoff, Jets drive nicely and have much less "bulk" to maneuver.

A favorable Jet article sounds great, just don't do it for the next issue of the WTN. The general membership of HET might think it's an April Fools joke
