Did Hudson make a pickup between '40 &'42?
Hi to everyone,
Saw an ad in a local classifieds paper. The ad says: For Sale '40, '41, or '42? Hudson Super 6 pickup 1/2 ton needs total restoration $475.00.
1. Was/is this model a real offering from Hudson?
2. If so, where might I find a picture to see what one looks like.
3. From the price, I assume this truck is total basket case. If I go look at it, what issues or damage might there be that would make it not worth saving?
I've been visiting this site for a while but this is my first post so be gentle!
Thanks for any help,
Thor

There was a pickup made by Hudson in these years. "The History of Hudson" by Don Butler has pictures and information of the trucks. You may also be able to find photos on the web. It may not be worth restoring if it is, in fact a "basket case", but the parts would probably be worth more that the asking price. I'd say to check it out and if you're not interested, post the information here and maybe somebody else might want it. Keep us posted. How's that for being gentle? LOL0

Club Coupe,
Thanks for the response. I may try to go look at it this weekend, but need to set something up with the seller. How can you distinguish between the three model years? Could I look for a body tag or something that would help? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,

This website has several pictures which should help ID Hudson trucks.

I have pictures of a few of Hudsons commercial offerings on my web site: http://groups.msn.com/HudsonMotorCarCompany/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=en-us
Hudson started building commecial cars (as they were then called) in 1929 with the Dover. This was produced on the Essex chassis. There has always been some question if the Dover was produced into the early 30's - possible 1930, maybe 1931.
In 1933 they were produced as Essex-Terraplane, from 1934 thru 1938 as Terraplane and from 1939 thru 1947 Hudson.
The 1940-1942 models were produced in both 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton versions - the 1/2 ton being 40C (1940), 10C (1941) and 20C (1942). 3/4 ton versions were models 48, 18 and 28, respectively. 1946-1947 models were all 3/4 ton rated.
Body styles offered in 1940-1942 were pickups and panel delevery's in both 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton - 1946-1947 produced pickups only.
There you have more than you always wanted to know about Hudson's commercial vehicles.

To All,
Bummer...the truck has already been sold. Paper came out on Tuesday, I saw the ad yesterday, called on it today, and it was already gone. I talked to the owner's wife and she wasn't able to provide much info. I will try to get in touch with the owner just to see what kind of shape it was in and where it went. Looks like I'm back to the drawing board...oh well.
Thanks to all of you that shared info. I really appreciate the effort an d thought.
Alexa, the truck was located near Marshfield, Wisconsin, which is near the North-Central part of the state.0 -
There are 2 of them on eBay now. For as few as were made, a lot of them survived and surface every so often.
The 40, 41, 42, 46 and 47 were essentially the same truck.
If it casts a shadow, buy it.0
