Steal of the Century........

Looks to be a decent original car (minus the motor). The BIN seems too high. Maybe the preacher that drove it on Sundays burned up the 8 cylinder at the drags on Saturday:D0

Looks to me to be stick with overdrive. Interior looks to be all original and in nice shape except for the seats. Body seems to be clean and presentable. Car looks to be rust free.... however I would want to look underneath.....0

Hmmm... Commodore "8", with a flathead '6' in it? (counted the plug wires three times). Engine must have been replaced at some point (?).
Yup' I only counted 6 plug wires also,- plus no water jacket on side of motor.
did notice the overdrive selonoid though.0 -
Can anyone identify for me , the knob next to the overdrive lever ?????0

Looks like a heater switch.0

Not sure, but keep in mind we're only 7 years into this century:D0 -
The BIN price is what you would expect to pay for this car. I also wondered about the six under the hood. May have been done years ago.0

I wrote and asked him to check the serial number and the engine number. Also told him where to find them. Looks to be a narrow block 262..just a WAG. it's about 65 miles from me if anyone has some money burning a hole in thier pocket, I'll go take look for you. Don't worry I won't buy it. I have a project now . It's obviously a dealer that knows nothing about Hudsons other than what the owner told him. I noticed he said the OD does not work . I wonder if he knows how to operate it?

I just got a message from the seller. The numbers on the engine and on the body match. It left the factory as a 51 Hudson Super Six Custom. Someone obviously "upgraded" the trim items.. i guess... unless they swapped engines and serial number plates.

My guess would be that lone back up lamp. Likely that it was added later.0 -
The guy says right up front that it's a Commodore 8 with a six-cylinder installed. What's the mystery?0

Probably the fact its a Hudson Super Six Serial # 5A 11673 and the engine matchs this. So either the minister who drove it for 25 years changed the side badges, tail lights and glove box lid or it was done way before he owned it. Why change the trim ....why I can't sleep until I know.....0

Duh! I bet the minister was dipping into the Sunday collection so he could rebadge his Hudson. For shame. But when he sold the car, the minister reportedly said, "The car drives heavenly, like you're floating on a cloud." :rolleyes:0 -
There is a bit more to it than rebadging. The lower rocker trim is also Hornet/commodore. along with trunk lid latch and ornamentation. I would like to see if it has three dome lights, cranks on the front vent windows, dash light dimmer, door jamb courtesy light switches.. Hmmm. it might be that someone had a Commodore eight with a bad engine and no Title. Also they had a rusty or wrecked Super Six with a good engine and a good title. That would explain it. Anything can happed in a span of 56 years! I don't think I want to make a 120 mile round trip just to satisfy my curiousity and to look at a car I am not going to buy , plus waste the sellers time. At any rate, it's a pretty good looking car, just a bit overpriced for me.. But I live in the past... it's cheaper..

Super Dave, I think your conclusion is accurate! There's convertibles running around with with far more interesting stories about how they evolved. The car is priced about where it should be, and if it's solid in the unibody, it shouldn't prevent someone from buying. The title, engine, and VIN plate match the year of the car. The buyer can make up the rest of the story on the "Upgrade" as long as they're aware of what you've already stated.0 -

I'd bet it's for the backup light.0
