spare tire rubber grommet???

a fellow who sells rubber parts for the prewar cars on ebay is selling a rubber grommet for the spare tire. i have a '35 and i don't see where this goes. is it for side mounts? my car doesn't have side mounts so i thought that could be a possiblity. i asked the seller but he did not know what his part is used for. regards, tom
