Bought a 54 Hollywood, Selling a 54 sedan.

Last year I bought a four-door sedan on Ebay (see photos), and have been making rather slow progress in having a few things taken care of (particularly fluid leaks, probably because the car apparently was stored for 30 years—88,000 original miles). I am not a mechanic, but did some bolt-on auto repairs (generator, starter, tune-up. brakes, etc.), mainly out of financial necessity, when I was a student. In fact, I’ve been doing what I can to learn as much as possible about Hudsons. I’m an avid reader of this forum and very appreciative of folks with technical knowledge. Ken Cates, Alex Burr, just to name a couple of people who have been very helpful, and I enjoy being a small cog in the Hudson forum. I am impressed with this group of people who are part of this online community of Hudson folks. Basically, I’ve become a sponge for Hudson information.

Anyway, now I am putting that car up for sale on Ebay. It is a basically rust free, solid California car, with a numbers-matching Twin-H and hydramatic—runs, drives, and shifts well. Please understand that I am not a “flipper,” the car is registered in my name in Texas and is in my garage. I’m selling it because my wife (amazing) gave the go-ahead to splurge (a financial stretch for us) and buy the black and white 1954 Hollywood on Ebay, which I did, and I only have space for one car. Getting a hardtop was my original dream (I like the 54’s best), but after joining HET, and scouring Ebay, traderonline, oldcar trader, etc, for months, I got the idea that a four-door sedan (my second choice--maybe surprising to some of you folks), what I could find and realistically afford. Among other things a hardtop will provide a cooler ride in the Texas weather. I am sixty years old, and my wife wanted my to get the model I really wanted, as well as a restored car, rather than a car to restore (that may be long in restoring). She knows I’ll be better at maintaining a car, than in restoring a car.

I’m using many of the photos from when I bought it, because here in Texas it has been unusually gray and overcast for quite some time (makes for flat photos—so overcast-- ). The car looks like it did when I got it, the only difference is that the driver’s side rear wing window has gotten a bit cloudier than it was. Also, I was just getting ready to send the weak vacuum wiper motor to Rob Ficken, so it is disconnected. My next plans were to recondition the generator and starter, as both work, but look fairly old, and are necessary for getting around. I had been going round and round in my mind about whether to have the car converted to 12v, stay with the current 6v negative ground (yes that’s the way I got it), or to go back to the original 6v positive ground, in any case I would need professional help with that.

Anyway, because nearly every Hudson that goes up for sale on Ebay gets scrutiny on this forum, and folks will recognize this car, I thought it would be best to let you folks know what is going on. Ouch, just my luck that another 1954 four-door Hornet is up for sale at the same time.

Thank you for your attention, and for making this forum what it is—helpful, informative, some times humorous, and generally friendly.

Pretty car, JP. You didn't say what you were asking for it . . . or have you already posted it on e-bay? What part of TX are you located?

Also, any chance of seeing a pic of the Hollywood?

    Would love to see it.

Of all the Hollywoods, the 54, in my opinion is the best looking. The roof line on the 54 seems correct, the others look too tall, like they were taken from another brand of car.

  • Is this car still for sale? Mike Theim
  • Hi, I guess I was outbid on the 1930 Essex Coupe. I was high bidder(according to E-Bay) for two days, then at the last minute(2 minutes before the auction endded), someone put in a bid $100.dollars higher than mine. I wonder if it was the owner???? Oh well, I can't do any more, I did all I could afford. I hope it doesn't get chopped up! Thanks, Steve
  • Hi Steve. Sorry to here you were out bid I was looking forward to going and git it for you. As a word this post should have been put on the thread it was started on or a new thread started. Try again for another I still have my trailer.
