46' wind wing elimination ?

there is a thread around here somewhere about one piece windows in 48-54 cars. i'll guess that the basics aren't much different between the two. i think the thread is in the rod section0

Thanks, Yeah I remember that thread but I think the 46' being pretty flat shouldn't need any bending. Maybe just a new one piece pattern and move out the track on the front side, fill the wing pivot indentation and so on. It would be the same as a VW bug...... I think? I'll do a little VW board browsing.0

I also thought about that Joe when I had the wind wing out and preping the truck for paint. I saw in Custom Classic Trucks mag an artical about doing that and it did not look that hard. Good luck and let us know how your doing with it.0

Here's an article from Classic Trucks on putting in one-piece power windows -

Thanks for the link Rick, that will help. I canceled my subscription to that mag a year ago because it about put me into F-100 over dose. The F-100 went from my most favorite truck in High school to my most hated truck today thanks to classic trucks. Anyway I'll take a lot of pictures.

1941 trucks are one piece side glass. Why not look for winder assemblies from one of these and also there's a guy on Ebay who's always auctioning door glass for trucks all years, or get a pattern off someone with a '41 and get glass cut locally.Have the pivot point filled and Job done.

I think moving the channel forward and getting new felt is probably the biggest challenge. I like the link to the truck 1pc install...looks like they took the pictures right out of my head!
Of course the stepdown presents a huge problem with the need for a curved piece of glass...at least I think yours is a flat piece. Thick posterboard will make a nice template as will aluminum sheeting (what I'll use to make my glass template in the stepdown)0 -

And when you guys figure it out for the step downs I'll do it to my wifes 500 -

nick s wrote:dan, have you thought of using 80's lincoln parts, they (at least the town cars) had a vent window that dropped into the door rather than pivoting, once it was down, the main window(and track between was lowered. a little tweek of the dividing channel and you may be close. at least something to look into.
Interesting idea...for me the elimination of the wing window is because there is no room to hang my arm out the window!
Now if you could eliminate the channel between the main and wing glass and have a blind seam both roll down or independent that would be cool!0
