My car is with my upholsterer and so far we are not having a lot of luck finding the right or close to material and color for my car. Is anyone out there carrying anything close for out cars? Mine is a 54 Special and should have a green interior. All that is left of mine that is original is the dash and the grab handles on the back of the front seats. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good site. I have requested some sample via internet info and I gave my upholsterer the number to call up there since he is old school and not computer literate.

    Paul,

Did you get everything from them? Headliner, carpet etc.

  • I have been dealing with SMS since last October. Still waiting on fabric. All they say is: Maybe next week. My upholster told me, he quit using them because they were dragging things out so long.

Needless to say, I am not happy with their service, one excuse after another.

  • SMS is expensive, and if you can ever get the material from them, it is top-quality stuff! The customer-service portion is definitely lacking!

Oh this was news I needed to hear with the Western Regional around the corner. I guess the website is all marketing as they make it sound like they are great with the presidents note saying you can e-mail him direct if you have any problems. As for paint or interior first, my interior is so bad, it almost isn't driveable. The headliner is falling down the seats need rebuilding and the last ones that did it, did such a butcher job it wasn't any good new and it certainly isn't any better old. The carpet has no insulation or padding under it and isn't even glued down. I have a buddy in the business and he is giving me a good deal just to re do it than just do patches. I am repainting it myself panel by panel so I will be sure not to mess up my new interior assuming I can get material to do it.
  • The carpet should not be glued down, you have to be able to access the Brake master cylinder and to check the trans fluid levels.

  • If you want to drive it just pull out the headliner, put some seat covers or mexican blankets on, pull out the old carpet and use some rubber mats and drive the thing. Then you can fix it up as you go...lets you enjoy the car while you work on it.
