I need the horizontal dimensions for a '51 2-door coupe for the doors.
This is the dimension from the front post at door hinge to the door post.
See Attached drawing.
thanks,
Chaz

I'm pretty sure these dimensions are listed in the Body Manual. If no one else responds today, I'll look these up when I get back to the garage this evening, and let you know tomorrow.

    Hudsonguy,
I have the body manual but I could not find these dimensions. Seems there should be a table of dimensions somewhere in the book.

The body manual should have diagonal measurements of the door frames - I'm not sure about the dimensions you are asking about.

I believe its in the Body or Frame Repair section...but my manual is MIA somewhere in a sea of boxes.

The Body Manual position on these dimensions is that it should be the same on both sides of the car. It does not gives any values. See pages 83 thru 85 of Body Manual.

    mars55,
I just re-read it again. You must have a different book than mine. All I can find on those pages are the 3 vertical dimensions that give you points on the front pillar for reference. My book is Hudson Body Service Manual 1948-1954, stock no. H978.

Heres the problem, my 2-door coupe posts are not there. I have to install and weld them in place. I need to get a measurement from the front door post at the cowl back to where my non-existant posts are that is to be installed. That's why I need the horizontal measurements.

You could hang the door and then mate the pillar, then quarter up as you go back - tack welding of course!

If I had my way I'd put some coupe doors on my 4 door by moving the pillar back and shortening the back doors - aw heck why not strech a 4 door out to fit the coupe door in the front!

Well, does your manual have a section named Body Aligning and Tramming on page 83 and Figures 117, 118 and 119 on page 84? In my manual, which is the one from the club store, the infomation given is for straighting a bent body and for that you don't need dimensions.
  • 49 same as yours iam thinking that they are.i have my doors off right now and get some measurements if you dont have them already. Brad
