I was looking in the newest HMM,and saw a picture of a 49 Brougham. The caption in the photo says it went 126mph and had a 308 Flathead Ford engine??.It does have a raised area in the middle of the hood, which I thought was odd.Anyone know about this car?.

I have some pictures somewhere. It does have a flathead Ford engine. The fastest stock bodied Hudson is Steve Kahn from the Portland Oregon area who has gone 139mph (? about) with a modified pink stepdown sedan. Hoping to beat that myself oine day with a 52 Pacemaker Brougham and much modified 308.

Ivan,so if you wanted to break a stock bodied record, why would a person put a flathead Ford engine in their Hudson? Is this because the flathead Ford prts are so plentiful? My stock 51 Hornet cpe.would run 105mph with a 2bbl.carb.and a 3.07 axle, and it probably had much more to give??.
  • If I remember this is the X class, Who has the record now? Last I saw it was held by a 50 Ford coupe with a flathead or maybe a GMC 6.

Sadly, the pink sedan will probably not race again. I heard from a friend of Steve Kahn's that the old girl is so rotted away now that he's too afraid to even move it. I guess they're planning another Rail car using the Hornet's engine.
