    Welcome to the Forum!

Too bad you're selling this nice car.

We have members on the forum who are working on or have restored stepdown convertibles in much worse shape than this one.

    http://homepage.mac.com/nycdc/Dennis's_49_Page/PhotoAlbum11.html

This link is to Dennis NY - his was much nicer before he tore it down - but this page gives you some ideas as to the issues on the frames of these cars.

This is Ken Cates prolific Hudson website and has lots of information on repairs for these cars...

I'm no expert on restoring Hudsons but the convertibles do command more money restored.

That being said unless you or a potential buyer did a majority of the labor - the restoration will not be a money maker right now in that having the work done professionally would probably net you dollar for dollar on an eventual sale maybe even a little less like .80 cents on the dollar.

Is it worth it to restore this car YES, you bet it is!

But someone has to do it for the love of the car and to see it back on the road and not about what it could be worth as an investment for resale...but that's my HO :)
  • Unless you are doing most of the work yourself you are looking at around $35K to restore this car probably more. They are desirable but they take a lot of work to get to a high dollar sale.

Did anybody see the top bows and convertible parts in the pictures?

It is all there. Have to wait on the last day for this one to see what it goes for. As good as a candidate you will find. Even see one ash tray in there

WELL I THINK $35,000 IS A PRICE IF YOUR DOING IT YOUR SELF

I HAVE $30,000 + IN MY 50 PACEMAKER CV AND WE DID EVERY THING BUT SEW THE SEATS AND THE CHROME PLATING OURSELVES MORE LIKE $60,000 + TO HAVE IT DONE BY SOMEONE

    HERE'S MINE START TO FINNISH

Yes, me included. And Paul is right about the money. I haven't done a Hud 'vert yet, but have done several other makes. A car in this shape will certainly take 35K or so to properly restore if one does 85-90% of the work themselves. The sky is the limit if you contract the majority of it out.

That said, this is a super good find- way better than what I have started with. The main thing about these convertibles is, do you have all the convertible-specific parts, like top bows, for instance. Or quarter windows. Or the stainless that goes around the top of the body. These are the parts that will be difficult at best to find, and really, damn near impossible. I'm already looking into fabricating parts that I desperately need. The pics of this car seem to show that nearly all the needed convertible parts are there. If I wasn't already deep into my current project, I'd certainly snap this one up.

It looks like all the parts for the top are there, but what about all the hardware that goes to the top??.There should be several special shouldered bolts, pieces and parts that aren't shown, most would have chrome heads[or used to be chrome].If you have these, you should post some more pics of them. These are essential parts. Are the top and window lines all still there?if so are they good patterns?Folded up in a box are useless.Do you know why this car was dis-assembled like this??I understand to restore,BUT it seems like someone really didn't have a clue of how to approach a restoration of this kind of car.It does look like a nice "core"compared to most!!!
  • ended $6,600 not a bad price for it hopefully it goes to a good home somewhere
