Per my tire guy at Goodyear, put in 42 and let her sit or drive her around and see what she feels like. I had trouble with my modern car when the manufacture stated 32 pounds and tire manufacture stated 40. Once I went up the 8 lbs, I got a lot better handling and better gas mileage. So I go with the tire manufacture recommendations.0 -
THe thing I dont' understand is that on the inside of the door jam , Hudson calls for 24 in the front and 26 in the back. I know that is for bias ply however I have 40 in there now and the ride seems harsh ? Is there maybe a happy medium ???? 32 ??? 34?? 36??0

Those tires are sized and rated for a heavier car. 40 is indeed a bit much for a stepdown. I run 35 in the 225s on my '51 Hornet, and it seems about right. No handling or wear problems0

If you're looking for a happy medium, his name is Endor, and he lives in the next town, and when the table starts to rise, he exclaims "That's the spirit!"
I run about 32 in my 205-75-R15s on the 49 Commadore. They're still harsh at slow speeds, but I think it's the gas shocks and radials with the old suspension. I'm going to switch to standard shocks and see what happens.0 -
I owned a Cord Replica with a 68 Kaiser Jeep Commando front suspension.I put on tires that stated 44lbs of pressure.Because that car rode very hard (nature of the beast) I lowered the pressure to 28-30 lbs for a softer ride .Many times when I hit a sharp bump in the road, the car would shimmy like mad until I slowed to 30mph or so.So I proceeded to rebuild the front end with a friend who ownes a front end shop.Nothing helped! Then I raised the pressure to 40-42 lbs and for 5 years I never had a problem. The walls on many tires are thinner than in the past the higher pressure keeps the tire from flexing too much. That would be passed on to the suspension, which may or may not cope with it. Hudsons have independant FS and will probably do OK but you will wear out the tires faster at any rate.0
