the building was in the state of city ordered demo and being leveled as we speak. i managed to get in tuesday and sweep up the remains of the hudson parts and paperwork. after long talks with the hazmat and demo teams i was able to stop them long enough to buy the parts and remains from the estate.

Hello Gearhead, thanks for sharing these pic's. I hope you got some good stuff. The only thing Hudson I seen is a 50's hood . VicTor

Wow, good going, gearhead! Glad you picked up on the problem and acted quickly! Somehow you would think that, with the general public realization that old stuff has a certain value, someone in the city would have said, 'hey, let's quickly contact a couple of our old-car contacts to see if the junk in that old building has any value. Maybe we can actually make some money for the city!" But noooo....

This seems to happen all too often. Usually, some old codger (or his widow) is sitting on that stuff, unwilling to part with anything despite earnest pleas of local antique car enthusiasts. Two weeks later they're gone and the heirs quickly cut a deal with some junkman or demolition company before anyone knows what's happening. Just seems like the dice are loaded agin' us...
  • Hi...

When Sam comes along he will probably want to contact you for more information. This adventure will make a good WTN story. I noted the garage maintenance equipment in the background of one picture and the parts bins are definately what I have seen in Hudson dealerships in the past. Really too bad that you were unable to get pre demo pics... but the fact that you were able to go in at all is really a story to be told in detail.

Once again... let Sam Jackson know more about your experience ... he and Mary can put together a great story for the wider audience of Hudsonites/

Thanks for taking the time to share.

    Cheers
  • Anymore, it's like the "urban renewal" of the Sixties, where beautiful and historic old buildings were ripped out to put up glass and steel crap! Bet this was tore down to make room for a damn franchise big-box store! "If it isn't generating tax revenue, bulldoze it!" is the un-official motto of damn near every city these days!

    Hello Wise Shaman,

Hear! Hear! Your post is quite accurate, as that is exactly what happened in the case of Gene Petrillo and the Glassport Central Garage. He never sold anything from 1957 to 1996. When he passed on, his widow sold the contents of the garage. The motherlode was then discovered. 8 cars and 8 truckloads of parts were there waiting to be discovered. The 52 brn Hornet originates from there after sitting for 35 yrs.
