Really Nice looking car not really as "original" as they claim...and what about the CRAZY paint scheme...?
Black top - maroon bottom - green interior is a pretty bizare color combo..hmmm... the car was partially repainted...I wonder if the original owners had the dealer change the lower body color or if they might have done that when it was repainted?
It's just hard to imagine someone coming up with those colors and ordering a car0 -
unfortunately Dan, that is likely the origonal color scheme. Blue or green was the choice in 53.0
-
Actually the first time I saw it the paint was all orginal and in really nice survivor shape. This is the orginal color combination.
Yes it is unusual but I have seen some real bizzare colors on cars of this
area and not just from Hudson.

Hudson literature offers this color scheme as standard. When there were more cars being driven this color scheme was seen nor often... it was also used in 52.0

Its almost like the head of color selection was partially color blind I wonder what his wardrobe looked like - something ala Payne Stewart?
If the paint was original I'm really disappointed they painted it - I'd prefer to leave it's patina than have shiny new paint....
I really want to see a nice non-detailed #1 or #2 - 100% original version someday (if one exists) - I wouldn't care that its not perfect - just as near 100% complete and original as possible.0 -
MY FAVORLITE DRIVER HSDON OF MY CAREER WAS A tORO RED, WITH BLACK ROOF AND BLUE CHECKERBOARD FABRIC. HAD IT FOR 33 YEARS. SOLD IT AFTER MY STROKE IN 2001, STILL MISS IT HAD THREE MOTORS IN IT OVER THE YEARS INCLUDING A STROKER. WAS ALL ORIGINAL WHEN i GOT IT, BUT REPAINTED IT BACK TO ORIGINALCOLORS, BILL ALBRIGHT0

My '53 Super Jet has the same color combo - black roof, toro red body, green interior. Just try to order that combo today at your local DaimlerChrysler dealer!0

Nice looking car. I would like to see more pictures of the interior. The one shot of the drivers door looks like the interior is a little worn or water stained? Note what looks like srews holding the chrome trim?
I know of an original 53 Hornet sedan in CT that is really "original". Paint, interior etc. They even saved one of the original light bulbs that burnt out . They replaced it it kept the original one in the glove box.0 -
GAG!!! Is it any wonder Hudson had problems selling their CARS?
If that was the ORIGINAL color combination, especially the INTERIOR I am afraid that I would have been looking in other showrooms.. The exterior isn't too bad, but when combined with that GREEN inside the car? Yikes gives me
nightmares even thinking about it...
Well good luck to the seller, but if the buyer can stomach that combination I would say that he is the one in need of serious therapy.. LOL0 -
Hmmmm....
My '53 Hornet sedan is brown ("desert tan" I think is the colour name) with white roof. Green checker interior. I'm 99.9% sure that this was a standard colour option for that year, and for '52 as well. It's a much more appealing colour combo than the one on that eBay car, IMHO.0 -
Hudson49 , Where in ct. ist that car? I'm in Wilton Ct and would luv to see it sometime... As I would luv to see your 49 broughm .....thx0
-
My 53 sedan is original, one repaint (badly!) on the bottom, original roof, and original interior. Boston Ivory (it may have been Honey Cream originally, I haven't really checked it out yet. It's only been 7 years.), Texas Tan, and green checkers, respectively. You wouldn't think the green would work but it does.
You also have to remember that color tastes change like the seasons. Remember the horrible Pea Green and Burnt Orange phase America went thru in the 70's?0 -
How high do you think the reserve is on this car ? 25,000 ? Nice car... but what about the sellers negative feedback....0

Who can say what the reserve is. Unless prices have risen drastically, I think that $25k would be excessive. The seller clearly states that he is listing the car for a friend. So, the poster's feedback may be a moot point in this case.0 -
Toro Red bottom & Black roof was a very popular color combo at our dealership in 1953, and the only interior I ever saw with that two tone combo was the green checked material. In 1953 there were only two choices, blue or green for Hornet interiors. The outside color combo was a carryover from 1952, but in '52 the interiors with this color combo could be either brown or blue.

The couple hornets I've seen in this combo were very attractive. Also in these years greens were very popular, both outside and inside. I have a 52 coupe in the Red but has the light gray (French gray?) top. I was going to change it, but probably won't, as reds are always desirable.0

So, yours is the opposite of the 1/18 scale diecast 52 Hornet that was produced a while back, the one with a Torro red top and French Gray body. How about a picture of your car?0 -

What about the 1953 cars that were ordered with leather interior? Could you get colors other than green or blue?0 -
For 1953 leather could be ordered also in burgandy as well as blue or green.
Being located in a small Ohio town, I don't remember that we ever sold a Hornet with leather interior tho.

By offering only blue and green cloth interior colors as standard, which admittedly, don't look good with some body colors, maybe Hudson was trying to push people into buying the optional burgandy leather. After all, they were using it in the convertibles anyway. If I were buying a car and wanted the color of the one we're discussing, I'd pay the extra money for burgandy leather as opposed to blue or green.0

Does anyone know what happened to this car ? listing on ebay is gone....0
-
The bidding ended at $15,200 but the reserve was not met.0
-
I was able to access the auction listing and it was ended because "the item is no longer for sale". I wrote the guy and asked why he had ended the auction before so many people like me had a chance to bid. I also told him what I thought it would go for. I really can't understand why someone would end an auction before the reserve was met unless they had no intention of selling in the first place. He might have been afraid that if his reserve WAS met he would be committed to selling.0

I think sometimes people are just fishing for a value for insurance purposes..??
Oh yea I had a black top, red bottom green interior 53 super Wasp four door. At the time I thought it looked OK. I did repaint it silver gray with black top. It's probably still running aropund south Florida somewhere. Last time I saw it, it relonged to someone in Cooper City.

I just read an email from the guy "listing it for a friend". He said that although the owner told him all week that he would not end the auction early, he decided to sell it to a man in Illinois. The lister said he was shocked. Okay, WHO BOUGHT IT?0
-
I'll bet it went for big $$$0
