OK, anybody have a handy dandy way/tool to get the little spring off the shaft to get the cam off to get to the flyweights?

There is a tool made to complete the spring removal and installation. I have one in my Allen distributror maching tool set. They are essentially a tube with a handle that has an hook on the end that allows you to engage the spring. If you recall what a spring remover / installer for brake hold down springs looks like this tool is the same.
Before I got this machine, I used a thin long nosed pliers which I purchased at SEARS.

For what it's worth, I've done this several times using a small, flat screwdriver that's just the right width to slightly spread the two vertical 'legs' apart enough that you can then take a dental pick to get between the shaft and the circular part of the spring and pry it out and off. Sometimes it comes right apart, other times it can be a pain.0
