Glad you finally got your heart's desire, John. Do post your comments down in the Hudson Forum, so other Hudsonites can share your happiness. (So many of them are busy down there, that they seldom venture up here to 'general topics'!). You can also join us 'live' at the Hudson Chatroom, http://www.classiccar.com/hudsonchats/chatpro.cgi , evenings after 8 PM EST (best nights to find people are Sunday and Thursday).0

I"m glad Mike explained that forum move! When I spotted Green's thread down in the Hudson section, I wondered if I had been out of my mind!0

Here is my car...all the part you don't see I have. My plans are to keep it all original. Not sure about a frame off...whats your opinion? -John0

Hi John, does this '52 have an 8 with supermatic drive? If yes , I hauled this car out of John L. (estate) back yard, I have pic's of it then. VicTor Z0

Welcome, I'll start with the first and most important piece of advice........ TAKE A TON OF PICTURES, from start to finish. That was my biggest regret. Have fun

John, looks like a beauty and shouldn't take long to get 'lookin' good'.
A couple of suggestions. Join the H-E-T if you are not already a member, it's a great source of parts, information and new Hudson friends.
Also, inspect the rear frame thoroughly before you go too much farther. Look under the car in the vicinity of the rear wheels, and farther back. Make sure the perimeter frame is solid and not 'swiss cheese'. These things can be repaired but you had better know now before you start investing a lot of money in things like chrome and upholstery. If it's solid, make sure you clean it thoroughly and rustproof it.0 -
This one reminds me a bit of Jays pacemaker where someone had painted and done some upholstery but it covered up some real rust problems.
Jons advice is spot on - make sure the extent of any rust before pouring too much time and effort into it...0 -

Hi John,
Welcome to the world of Hudson ownership. Have you joined the HET club and your local chapter yet? BTW, your Hudson is a unibody car. Therefore, doing the quintessential frame off restoration is not possible.
Say hi to Kato for me,

thank for all of the advise so far guys. i just printed out the application for the club. i will check for rust and the rear end in the morning, thanks john. beleve it or not thats the original paint job, it was really oxidized but my brother is an amazing detailer so now you can see your reflection in it. hey victor this has a hydromatic in it. it was pulled from the estate by a man by the name of frances penne i believe, which in turn sold it to wayne, then to me.i have a question for every one, does anyone out there have a set of 52 california plates they want to sell, i would like to register the car with yom plates. thanks a million every one. -john0

If your in So Cal, the best place to find YOM Calif plates is the Pomona Swapmeet. Otherwise, look in Hemmings and you will find a few vendors in there.
My opinion on a nice solid Hornet Coupe llike this, keep it stock. You'll be way ahead in the value and interest in the car. Also, find a Twin-H set up for it if you don't already have one. That is what everyone loves to see when they look at a Hornet.0 -

Excellent ~ Original paint to boot!
I'd say keep it stock as well...does it run right now or is it a roller only? How's the wiring, gauges, interior?
If you don't have any real rust issues and given the fact that the paint is original I would opt for a more "sympathetic" restoration - which is getting the mechanicals safe and reliable (even if this means rebuilding) - and only addressing cosmetics such as replating the bumpers...
With a sympathetic restoration basically you'd be doing a rebuild without a complete teardown (like my 49 project) - which keeps as much original parts on the car as possible and should get you on the road much sooner than a complete teardown.
These days if you can pass on rust repairs body and paintwork I think you can get a nice car on the road for a reasonable amount of money and time.0 -
mr Ed Burton of the cal Inland chapter is a lic plate dealer. he has a large stock of YOM PLATES. CALL 909 399 5800 bill albright0

I Am Going To Keep It As Stock As I Possibly Can, I Think It Deserves Thats Much Respect. The Interior Is In Great Shape, The Foam And Springs Are Like Brand New But The Fabric Needs To Be Redone. I Wish It Was Currently Running But The Motor Is In Pieces, I Need To Learn How To Work Of Flatheads Or Find Someone To Do It For A Good Price. I Do Have Twin H For It Too! The Guages Are Also In Great Shape But The Wiring Needs To Be Redone.0
