thermistat installation
I've done this before, but since last weekend when I broke the housing, I'm a little paranoid.
Just received a new housing frmo Dave S, and purchased a backup from Lance (hudzilla) just to be safe.
I noticed that the thermistat doesn't exactlly fit flush inside the lip of the outlet. There is a small lip, less than 1/8 inch all the way around. If I were to crank down on the bolts, the gasket might privide enough space to prevent the housing from cracking again. It doesn't look like it was ever meant to fit metal to metal.
I'm thinking of putting washers on, such that they match the space created by the thermistat, so as to protect the housing from a slight bend. Will also use a fair amount of silicone gasket goop, as I did last time.
I also noticed that it takes a little wiggling to make the bottom part ot the thermistat fit in the 308. The arrangement is such that the thermistat can only fit in one way, spring down toward the engine. This may have been what killed me last weekend. I'll bet the thermistat was hitting that triangular piece just inside the 308, and bllowing my clearance. When I cranked down, crack!
Any advice before I tighten the bolts a second time?
Thanks to Dave and Lance for providing replacement parts. :-)

Chris, the thermostat should fit flush in the housing. i checked a couple thermostats, one would not seat completely in the housing, try another. once you have a thermostat that seats properly, use a little gasket sealer to "glue it in the housing and prevent it from slipping out of position.0

Glad I posted.
So, Which thermistat to use? There are several different sizes. Anybody have a part number?
I just got back from PepBoys. When I said "Hudson" the attendant gave me a funny look, and then without warning, his head exploded.

chris, first do you know what your thermostat should look like? if not they are a by-pass type that I'm pretty sure pep boys or the like will not have but are still readilly available. here's a pic I stole of ebay. I looked at mine again, I have one which the rivets interfere and dosen't seat (i think it could be corrected with a little encouragement) and another that is apperently a different application as the flange is a larger diameter, this can be checked easily by inserting the thermostat upside down in the housing.0

I used a later model chrysler thermostat 160 degree in my wasp. Drilled a 1/8 hole in it and blanked off the bypass in the housing. Works great.0
