Time to start on body

It's going to be a lot of work, but it should be a nice car when it's done. I really like the shot of the rear window. It looks so oval from the inside.0

Boy these pictures bring back memories - not sure if they are good ones or bad ones yet...
My car was eerily in similar condition - probably a bit worse - but mostly there.
What's the plan with the car? Are you tearing it down, restoration, mods?0 -
Dan
I don't know yet how far i will strip it down. Depends on what i run into. I will start by removing all four doors and striping every thing from the inside. I have front floor pan rust but i have new ones from Ken Ammon. No rust issues on the frame. I am just trying to make a nice looking driver not a show car.

Les,
You won't be dissapointed with the Ken A. reproduced floor pans - I'm still giddy with delight in how well they fit and look!
Take a look at getting a shake-n-brake tool for getting the door hinge screws off - I didn't have to drill out a single one on either the body or door side...
From an older post...WHOA! Don't drill them out! I bought this tool and it was the best money I have spent on a tool in a long time. I got ALL 32 of the screws out of my 49 without drilling one of them out! I used a philips bit in all but 1 of them where I used the "left-e" bit that came with the tool.

I did heat the heads up and had to work a few in and out - while spraying "Break Free" (similar to WD40) - but all the original threads (nut plates) are intact and I only have to replace the screws
Here's an idea of what my hinges and screws looked like - about as bad as they could get and they still came out with that tool!
A better 50.00 you can't spend! I think Snap-on sells something similar...0 -
Dan,
I second the recommendation of the Shake N Break tool. Thanks for your initial post telling us about it. I've got a '49 that's basically all restored, with no rust issues whatsoever, but even so, loosening those door hinge screws proved impossible to do with an 'impact driver'. Between being careful not so smack any recently painted surfaces or my fingers, I had no success with it at all. So I recently bought a Shake N Break and can't believe how well it works. It took me ten minutes to loosen all the door hinge screws, with no damage to anything.0 -

I also started with a hand held "impact driver" same darn tool I've used for this problem for 25 years...they wouldn't budge.
Shake-n-Brake (not the Talledega Nights Shake-n-Bake) is one of the best tools for the money I have ever bought.
They also have a set of bits for extracting stripped screws and broken bolts!0 -
intact and I only have to replace the screws.
Good luck trying to find the phillips screws for these! I hunted forever to find something that would work. I have ones that are allen head and they work. If want to buy some, I have them for $6 per door......

I just bought new stainless steel screws from Totally Stainless. 5/16-24 x 3/4" Oval Phillips Hd. for $0.42/ea. Their part number is 2-3280. I think they're on page 100 of their catalog. Here's their website;
