I saw this a while back and tried it on an old tire. Didn't come out with the best results...at least on the tire I tried it on there was a " step" in the white rubber and the white didn't go all the way to the bead. Possibly on another brand of tire it would work better.

Yep that is what I did, but hey some may want to go this way for Rat Rodding for the fun of doing it yourself!

Seems like it would be easier and more controled if you had the tire mounted on the car and clamped the grinder onto some solid object and rotate the tire.. Sorta like a big lathe.

Maybe use your local tire stores trueing machine? Davew

If anyone is in the Phoenix, AZ are anytime there is a guy that widens WW's while on the car with a machine and it's really cool to watch.



He gives you a nice chair and sets up a table with a car magizine on it and a big glass of ice tea or lemonade and wants you to watch him do his majic.



He took a narrow WW firestone radials on our '55 (excuse the word Packard) and made them 2" WWW's. Looks very nice and made it less expensive. I am going to have the KUMO radials on my '50 Super 6 done before long.



The cost was @$350 for a set of the Firestones (installed) and the $30 each to have the ww's widened for a total a less than $500 for a set of 2' WWW's.



I'd like to afford real WWW radials, but my billfold isn' thick enough!
