Per the Hudson factory tour pamphlet I have, the undercoating process was one of the last steps in production. Therefore, and unless Hudson used pastel undercoating, black would be correct.0

the factory undercoating was done before the tank installation as the trunk floor is completely undercoated. the tanks left as bare metal. here are pics of the tank from my 48 which (was not dealer undercoated). Actually the undercoating was limited to the trunk floor and fenderwells while the rest of the frame (including the rear frame rails) and floors were just painted black. In the left picture, the outside edges are just filth covered, the center is shinny metal and the purple stripe is the seam sealer. black paint will let the tank disappear and protect it from the elements and you will find it to be the option of choice.0

If the person who compiled the Hudson factory tour book is still alive, I'm going to shake my index finger at him/her. How dare they mislead the buying public. :rolleyes:0
