Generator light?

My generator light stays on all the time. ( 53 Hornett) I think this tells me that it is not charging the batery. Any good way to test it ? Any kits to repair the generator?

Thanks

You either have a short or the brushes in the generator are shot. You might just need new brushes.
  • In addition to what Harry said you might also want to test the voltage regulator. Yours should be a 45-57 amp model used on 52-54 stepdowns.

Start the car and hook up a volt meter across the battery. I should be reading over 6V if the generator is working. If not take it to you local rebuilder and he can check the rest.

Brushes for a generator are really cheap, and easy to replace, and it's a quick job!
