Thanks to Frank Fry and the Grand Canyon crew for a fun Western Regional. This year's event was a lot of fun - I really enjoyed the "tech session" in the parking lot late Saturday nite...
Enjoy the pics

The police car is Kenny Perkins, I believe he says it was originally a sheriff's car, but I could be wrong. Maybe someone else on the forum knows more about it.

  • Matt, I enjoyed your Pics of the Western Regional. I am planning on going to Doc's meet on Sunday May 13th. I will send you some pics from there. Also, you got me interested in Hudsons again. I have rejoined the HET and the Pa Dutch Chapter. Now, I just need a Hudson! Uncle Bill

Hey Royer, it was nice to meet you in person at the Western. We sat at the same table for the cowboy dinner. Did you get any photos of the step down painted like a race car? I missed it since I got in late Friday. It was already gone.

the '33 T8 coach used to belong to surfing legend Bruce Brown (Oscar award winning movie "The Endless Summer") & former HET member; the '34 Railton tourer was the ex-John Bond (owned Road & Track mag) car.

It was nice meeting you also. I arrived in Mesa around 2pm on Friday, so I missed the car you are talking about. Maybe someone else on the forum has the pic - Anybody?

I enjoyed the meet too and finally got to ride in a Jet. I will respect them from now on, it is a neat little car. Got to hang out with the legendary Walt Mordenti and his wife, what neat people. Only thing that went wrong the whole trip was my engine gave up near Desert Center on the way home. Are there any hard luck awards for leaving a regional meet?

You'll have to send me the pic of Q sitting in my Jet. I'm glad to hear I made a Jet believer out of you.

Sorry to hear about your break down, I hope it's not too bad.

I have some pic's of it, but I haven't learned how to put them on here yet. I'll try later today , or can someone tell me how or what thread to look for?

(((((((((((THANKS to those who or attended the Western Regional)))))))))

Also, For the Grand Canyon Chapter - and the Western Regional Committee I would like to THANK all of you who came to the meet. We had a great turn out and I for one had a great time meeting many people that I had heard about and never met!! (This was my 1st Regional and Kearney was our 1st National to attend)

This was our Chapters first attempt at putting something like this on and it was great fun (and a lot of work, as a lot of you know), but was well worth it to see all those HUDSONS running all over town! with the smiling faces in them!!!!

We advertised the meet through many different media and boy did we get lots of calls from the public in the Valley area and from other states (also snow birds too) wanting to know more about the meet and Hudsons! We had a great response to the public viewing. As usual - those stories of Grandpas Hudson and....

We handed out many National & Grand Canyon Chapter applications and have in hand 2 - 3 filled out and paid apps!!!. Thanks to Janet K. and others for their promoting the Hudson Cub to the public who came to see those "Hudson Cars". We all had a great time talking to the public viewers as well as other Hudsonites.

Get this - One of the new GCC members has 1909 Hudson Model 20 Roster!among other Hudsions and they live just a few miles from where I live in Phoenix! (Small world!) They were already members of the National Club, but was not in the local chapter. Activities like these meets brings excitement to the members as well as the community!!!

Lesson learned - look through the national roster for members in your area that are not part on your local chapter and get them involved!

We also found out to get the Hudsons out and drive them, go to other car shows and to cruise ins anytime that you can - We've picked up at least 5 new members since January from this!

Thanks again to all who came to the Western Regional - you helped to make it a great success. Keep your Chapters growing too!!!!!!

  • Tom,
It was great meeting you in Mesa. That is one sharp Super 6 you have!

Here's a suggestion for the suggestion box. Let's have our Hudson forum "handle" listed on the name tags we wear at meets. Tom, I figured you were a hudson nut, not THE "Hudsonnut"

    Matt,

    That's a great idea! Don't know why I didn't think of that . LOL

Some of our friends think I am a little nuts about Hudsons - but I intend on making some of them one too!

That would be a great idea to pass on for the National meet. Are you going to pass it on to that Chapter? If not I will (and give you credit for the idea, ofcourse).

    Take Care & Happy Hudsoning

    The "Hudsonnut"

  • Tom - You can let them know, and you can take all the credit.

They wouldn't listen to me anyhow, I drive a Jet! (JOKE)
  • HUDSONNUT

Matt - I'll pass it on t someone and give the credit to both of us. It would be good for the Nationals and all the regionals as well as other big meets.

We'll see if anyone listens to us. You can park your Jet next to my Super 6 anytime!

Hope to see you in Auburn.

    Hudsonly back t you.

Sorry to hear that your engine gave up the ghost. What happened?

If you were going to break down - you should have done it on the way to the Regional. We were hard pressed to find a candidate for the Hard Luck award!

Best not to earn such an award! LOL

Hope it isn't too much work to fix you motor!!

Walt & Margret Mordenti are special people and she is gutsy to make the trip after hurting her foot.

Have A Great Day - Keep moving and not sitting along side of the road!!

    Matt,

I'm sure you have looked at the Eastern Regional thread. They are giving an oppertunity to have the "handles" placed on the name tags if registered people e-mail the info to them!!

Another person had an idea to have a chatters breakfast also. Looks like the idea has taken a lifr of its own.

Take care and have a Hudsonly day

I was hoping for maybe a most improved since I did do a lot to the car since the last Western Regional. Added Twin H and some engine detailing, converted to 12V,new wheels and tires, some body and paint work, new interior (still needs some work) electric wiper conversion, some rechroming, restored instrument cluster and some smaller odds and ends. Don't know if there is an award for that but I have seen them in other clubs. As for the motor, not sure yet. It is still sitting at Lloyd Millers and I was trying to get one of the local chapter members to look at it since I already have three dead soldiers in my back yard so I can't have another one. Walt thinks it is a head gasket but I do have a slight rattle from the bottom end. It suddenly used a lot of oil though still had pressure. Hoping to get it to a buddy of mines shop where I might be able to work on it here and there if he has room. Hoping a head gasket and a set of bearings will get it going until I can get the time and room to rebuild it.

Like the "handle" idea Tom, it would be nice to meet up with guys we've all talked with here on the forums. I did meet up with 2 guys from the forums here at the western. Not sure how many would want to talk with me once they learned who I was though! lol

    To 464Saloon

I guess we should have had a "Most Improved" award with all of the work that you put in that Hudson!!!! I guess I missed seeing yours as we were pretty busy with the meet and didn't get a chance to enjoy car looking as much as I would have liked to. Next year's Regional I can spend more time enjoying the Cars!!! Our Club had a GREAT Time putting on the Regional though - I now will appreciate other meets much more!

Can you refresh my mind - which car was yours?

We were trying to come up with more award catagories, but missed that one for sure. Next time we do a Regional - that'll be food for thought!

Maybe you should have had the "Most Improved" and the "Going Home Hard Luck Award" ( Not sure how to project that though!)

I hope that it won't be too much work & "$'s" to get that baby back on the road. Will you be taking it to the Nationals?

    Take care

    Tom,

Mine is a pretty rare bird, even for a Hudson. It is a 54 Hornet Special 2dr sedan ( Brougham) with a 3spd and OD. It is red with white 1/4's,white roof and green interior. The National is too far away, heck I didn't even accomplish the WR successfully. I would never attempt that far a drive until I have the car completely gone through. I have only had it a little over a year and it has consistantly broken something on every Hudson event. Need to get past that before I try one of these long distance Nationals. Where is the next WR going to be?

    Hey Rob,

I think that the 2008 WR is in San Jose. That should be closer to you, yes /no?

I do remember your car now that you describe it. I didn't get enough time to droul over the cars like I would have liked. It sounds really nice and unique. I'm trying to find someone here that may have it in one of their pics. I wish I would have taken some time to look at the cars more. Keep working on it and don't give up. They do become reliable with fusin, cusin and patience (unfortunitly with bucks too) With all of the work that you've put in it your going to have a GREAT Ride!

I had my Super 6 for almost 5 years before I could rely on it to go around across town, let alone any distance at all. AAA and I got to know each other real well for at least 3 or 4 times (The drivers enjoyed seeing her though), before I finally got her reliable thanks to Al Suffrahn's master hands on a complete rebuild of the drive train and brake system. Now I have full cofidence that we can take off, like we did on our 6,000 trip last summer, and go anywhere I want (Boy, I shouldn't say that - somethings bound to happen now!!).

This Summer, we'll be taking her to Reno ( Nat'l Bowling Tornament) in June then up towards Canada, down to Iowa to our daughters and then to Auburn to the Nat'ls, down to Kentucky and N. Carolina and then not sure after that. Some of this depends on the price of gas.

You'll have yours going fine someday - I know how you feel!!

    Take Care

    Happy Hudsoning!!

Wish I could say that for AAA. They took 2.5 hours to get a truck to us and the driver didn't speak any english. Fortunately my lady friend who was with me can speak spanish so we got the job done. Imagine what would have happened if she wasn't there. There was me Quentin Roberts and the Kistlers and none of us speak a word of spanish. I am tempted to write a letter to AAA about it but I am so pressed for time right now, they may get away unscathed, though I think the Kistlers may write them,as they were quite displeased with the situation. As for San Jose,it is actually farther. I will have to have the engine gone through by then or I won't make it. If this quick fix plan of mine works it will only be to get around locally and buy some time. No more long tips. I have some pics of the WR but right now,I can't find my cord for loading them into the computer. When i find it I will get them to you.

Boy, if you can find time - DO let AAA know - That's rediculous!!!! What country do we live in anyway!!

Yah, I'd like to see your pic's - I also need to learn how to post them.

My wife was wondering if you lady friend was at the Ladies Lunchon? She thought maybe they sat at the same table as Moonyean Kistler did as well. My wife also wore a "50s outfit for the fashion show.

Let me know how the repairs go - here's hoping!
