Does anyone know what color the engine should be on a 37' Terraplane?

It should be aluminum/silver. An excellent match is Duplicolor's 500 degree engine paint (spray cans), in color Aluminum. Available at NAPA and some other parts houses. Some other aluminum/silver paints are a bit too "chromey" looking. Prepare the surfaces properly, and don't put it on too heavily, else it will start looking too smooth and shiny. You want to see the texture of the underlying cast iron. The engines and transmissions were painted as an assembly after they were fully assembled, so everything is silver except for the carburetors, distributor, air cleaner and spark plug wire looms. The latter three items are black (if you really want to be authentic, the short piece of radiator hose between water pump and water manifold was also silver, since the engines were sprayed after that hose was installed). Spark plug wires were black, with no boots on the spark plug end. Drop me an email and I'll email you a couple of photos of an authentically done engine. hetpwald@mindspring.com (remove the "het" first)
