Electrical Problem on Jet

 I have been putting my Jet back together since it has been painted a few weeks ago, before I took it apart everything was working fine. But now the headlights and parking lights are screwed up! I took the headlight buckets out cleaned, repainted them, rewired all of the wires that go to the headlight system, ( the ones that run in front of the radiator) But now when you turn on the parking lights the head lights come on. Also when you turn just the headlights on the parking lights stay on. The passenger side head light seems to work correctly when you use the dimmer switch. The driver side light seems dim and dosent work well when you use the dimmer switch. also when you turn on the parking lights the high beam indicator is on, but is dim. when you turn the headlights on, the high beam indicator works properly.

I have tried to make sure that I have a good ground. Could the problem be in the drivers side head light ( like a bad ground) or could it be the other one even though it seems to work ok. Also the parking lights will not work unless the the metal part on the bulb itself is grounded. ( it was like that way before I took it apart) I am still using the six volt system.

It does sound like the light assemblies aren't grounded. Happens when you paint everything fresh. Use some temporary jumper wires to make sure all four light sockets have a good connection to ground, and see if that makes everything right again.

Park is right, you have a gropund connection problem. The ground wire from the headlight and park lamp should be connected to the mounting screw for the terminal blocks either side of the radiator mounting. Double check that you have the correct wires connected for the filaments and ground on the sealed beam connector back to the terminal block. If neceassary, connect a ground wire to the park lamp housing and run it back to the chassis as well. (drill and tap a hole in the housing to connect the ground wire). You get strange things happen when there is no earth - e.g. both headlamp filaments will glow dimly. Good luck,

    Geoff.
  • Thanks, guys, That is what it was I had the parking light wire and one of the head light wires crossed, she works fine now! I guess when I took the inner fenders out and the radiator frame out to paint I must of crossed them when I put it back together. Or just a brain f*#!.

    Thanks, Barry Smedley
