This Week's Problem
I bought some of those turn signal bulbs that Paul recommended in a thread last week. When I put a new bulb in the left rear I got a very weak light. I played around with it a little and then the light brightened. When I tested the left turn signal both the left and right lights blinked. I examined the junction block and saw that the wire to the left bulb stop light was dangling from a single strand of wire coming out of the junction block. No wonder the light was dim. But why is the right flashing when I turn on the left signal? I assume that I have a short from the left stop light wire over to the right stop light wire either externally to the block or internally. I thought that these two items should be easy to repair but it doesn't look like you can take the junction block apart. What do I do now? The weather has been great and I haven't had a chance to put the top down and cruise.

The junction block is nothing more than a splice... each wire has a bullet connection on the end on each side of the junction block. The junction block is a piece of plastic that holds metal tubes that receive each bullet and provide continuity between the bullets. I suggest that you carefully remove the wires from the junction block and mark each with its mate... the one on the other side of the block is it's mate. Remove the screws that hold the block to the under frame of the dash and clean each tube ... a gun cleaning rod with metal brush will work super... steel wool will too. Make sure each bullet is securely fastened to the wire it services. If the cloth shield on any of the wires looks frayed... take a piece of shrink tube and shrink over the wire... I did all of mine ... clean each of the bullets with a bit of steel wool so they are bright. Insert the wires into the block and remount. If all is well with the wiring elsewhere ... the lights will work independently and the necessary current will flow to make bright bulbs. Note that the contacts in each tail light housing must be clean and free of corrosion too.

Doug, I'm not going to make it to Ken's. I'm going out of town in the morning.
Update on the turn signals. When the headlights are on, both turn signals will flash at the same time. When the headlights are off each works independently of the other. My son-in-law suggested it might be a bad ground.
Ken, is their any reason I cant' just bypass th junction box and connect the wire feeding into the box with the wire coming out that goes to the left turn signal?

Great Lesson for me also Ken, as you know I am working with stop lights, but correct flasher is on order. Flasher is 2 prongs. 1 connector female, 1 connect male. Another Dinasour to find...
I presume the junction block in the trunk attached to the gas tank block has the same bullet connections. Thanx again for the 54 wiriing diagram....0 -

You can by pass the block if you want.. it is there to allow the easy disconnection of the signal system from the brake and parking lamp illumination circuits.0
