Does anyone know what the weight of a 1949 six cyl engine and three speed transmission is? This info will eliminate a lot of guesswork when replacing the front suspension. confused.gif

  • You really shouldn't have to calculate this sort of thing for yourself! The suspension components which were designed for your car are still out there. And, there are companies which manufacture new coil and leaf springs for antique cars (like Eaton Spring, for example), who have all the original specs for your car.
  • We are replacing the stock engine/transmission/drivetrain with a GM 350 and 700R4 trans. We are also installing a Fat Man's Fab. front clip to modernize the suspension/brakes. The folks I'm talking to say that the new "stuff" will probably weigh less then the stock gear so in order to obtain the right spring rate it would help to know the stock weights.
