Sorry the 25877 will not work The correct bearing is 25877T, The T stands for tapered inner bore. The 25877 has a straight bore and will not seat on the Hudson Tapered axles. The 25877 can be found at any bearing supply house for about 10.00 each.0

Did Hudson change to the straight 25877 rear axle bearing in 1952 when it changed style of rear end?0

I have a few of the correct 25877 "T" bearings if anybody is looking for one or maybe two, cost is $95.00 US each plus postage. These bearings are almost impossible to find.

J Spencer, Yes Hudson switched in about mid-model year in 1952 to the Dana/Spicer rear end. This was a convient way to get another improved product in without tooling up to make new rear ends and all the associated costs. Remember, up to this point they had produced all rear ends in-house. The new wheel bearing that Dana used was used by many manufacturers and is still very popular. There had been some talk a few years ago about getting the club to have the older 25877T bearing reproduced in Asia so that they would be available again and at a reduced cost. Les Pendlebury is actually modest about his pricing on the few 25877T bearings he has. I have seen them as high as $375. ea.0

New 25877-T bearing sets are advertised in the NovDec WTN on Pg 38 at $180 each.0

Maybe I had better increase my price.LOL.
NO, No, they are still at the advertised price if anybody needs one.0 -
There are a lot of the '51 and earlier rear axle assemblies out there in parts cars, etc. If you want a 25877T as a spare in case of an on-the-road failure, consider getting one of these used axle shafts with a good bearing (new or used) already on it. Sure better than trying to find a press as well as a bearing!0

Is there an easy way to tell whether you have the Hudson or the Dana/Spicer rear end? I have a 52 Hornet, and have never had occasion to look at the real end, but it would be nice to be able to know what I've got when I do- Thanks0

The axle that uses the 25877T Does not have the bolt on rear cover. the later dana has the removable cover. they changed in 52.0

Mike, Early production 1952 Hudsons did NOT origionaly have the Dana/Spicer setup. This was done after 25-35% of 52 production had gotten underway. It is entirely possible you may have one of the older assemblies. As has been noted, the "P" type {Dana/Spicer} differential had a bolted on rear axle cover while the earlier "H" type differential that Hudson made had a welded cover. It was also a more massive rear end.0

I just did the rear on my '48. Just to confirm, the axel is indeed tapered and required the "T" bearings. Mine didn't appear to be worn, so I didn't replace them (couldn't find replacements at the time).
