Stepdown suspension questions... cross reference

Hey...

anyone have good current numbers for cross reference for modern tie rod ends and stabilizer links for stepdowns? I would like to get a set of 4 tie rod ends, that match, rather than hunting down additional tie rods for my 50 C-6. also, wouldn't mind finding the stabilzer links as well...

Any help???

thanks!

For tie rod ends try ES416L and ES416R. These are '48 Ford Pickup.

The stabilzer links are supplied by K-gap.

Yeah, I know about the 48 ford p/u. I was hoping to find something more modern, that would be stocked at my local autozone, pep boys, napa, advanced auto..... :D

I guess I didn't make myself clear. '48 Ford pickups are still listed in auto parts stores catalogs.

    ES416L and ES416R are Moog.

NAPA numbers are 262240 and 262241.

Spicer numbers are 4011096 and 4011097.

These are good current part numbers.

Years ago, my first rod was a '42 Ford p/u. Parts were really easy to get since there were so many Ford '42-'50 pickups with the beds removed used in the grape vineyards! I imagine there are still 100's of them round still working.

I'll take a look. I just had a difficult time imagining that these parts were still current numbers.... Thank you an accept my apology for the doubt! Best thing is now, I got good part numbers!!!

Well, what parts auto part stores can get makes no sense. Some parts you think they would be able to get, they cann't and parts you think they would be not able to get, they can. So pays to check.
  • yeah, I like the price on the ford tie rods better, they're $21 each, and the hudson ones are $57 each...

my thoughts are that the fords are always going to be availible... might as well put them on now...

Stabilizer links from 68 thru mid 70's Chevy Chevelles / Monte Carlo's work. They Have the same length. If you prefer you can also get them from parts stores, etc with the heavy duty (urethane bushings) in them'

On the stabilizer bar I just took my old ones into a speed shop and matched them up with their Energy Suspension stock. Now I have urethane on the links and the center supports. Now the next challenge is matching up a bigger bar, but I have to fix my motor first. :(

Quickor suspension said they would make me an exact replica of my hudson sway bar in a larger diameter, if I took detailed pictures and measurements and sent the info and bar up to them. I think the guy who ran Quickor had some medical problems and is no longer dealing with the public. Something about race teams only.

I imagine Hotchkis or Helwig would be able to do the same.

    I remember earlier on this forum, someone suggested that an AMC sway bar could be used as a larger diameter replacement for the stepdown. Don't know firsthand, but it might be worth checking out;

  • Here's the thread.....

    i think.....AMC swaybar replacement?
  • Aftermarket swaybars for 62 to 64 Chev Impala are very close to a direct fit on a stepdown. I had Quickor make me a larger front bar for my 54 Hornet, took him a while, but fits good. He should still have the pattern for it. Lou Cote
