Hey Hudnuts, I'm in romania... so now HET has a member in Romania. haha. Anyway haven't located any Hudsons here so far or any old car for that matter. A whole lot of Dacia's though (Romanian Nat'l Car) I had to mothball my Hudson projects but the adventure will be worth it and they'll be there. (I hope) hehe. Best regards too all and now that summer is coming get out there and drive em! Think of how lucky you are to be able to drive your Hudson too. Here the Peace Corps does not allow me to own or drive a car. I might get a ride in a Carutta or 2 though (horse drawn cart).

  • Glad to hear you made it safely. If you don't find any old cars to tinker with there, maybe you can help the locals rod a Carutta. :D You know, add more "horse" power, jack up the rear end, put slicks on it., etc. Why can't you own or drive a car there? Have they found out about your driving record here? ;)

Best of luck as you serve the Peace Corps, Aaron!. Be a good ambassador, and make us proud of you! Also, keep an eye peeled for any obscure imported Hudsons hidden away!

I can't drive a car because the Peace Corps says they're worried about my safety and also because they want volunteers living at the same level as the people they are serving so that we're not seen as being rich and condescending Americans. Even if that were not the case I couldn't afford a car on the Peace Corps living allowence.

BILL - If you look up wikipedia online under Hudson or "Terraplane" there's a (Ithink) '39 Convertible in India that's pretty wrecked that someone took a picture of. Guess some cars made it to that part of the world.

Aaron, I thought as much. Maybe a step down style Carutta is in your future.

Yeah I'll make a monobuilt body out of wood, I'll boost the HP of a carutza with hooker headers, a blower, and just for extra measure (and reduced methane emmisions) I'll add flame throwers. LOL Every omish type in town will know it's me coming down the road when I blow the hoofs off the competition and make the girls of the c ountryside swoon over the American who rolls in style! ......Or maybe I'll just teach some kids english. LOL

Sorry correction, the Terraplane convertible pic I saw on wikipedia is in Nepal.

Congrats on making it to Romania...we're proud of you! Now I know 2 people in the PC, Aaron...you and my son Dave. After nearly a year in Mali, West Africa, I believe he has received permission from PC Hq to buy a motorcycle. (Likely less than 100cc). That will help, since he now rides his bike 11 miles to the main road and then hitchhikes to town, another 9 miles.

In the Mar/April issue of WTN we had a little story on a stepdown still in use in Hungary by the railway. So...you never know what you will stumble across. You could contact Dick Teeter for more info on the Hungary car.

Good luck with your training period and posting...

Correction, you'll have to hew a monobuilt body out of wood and add subframes. With headers, a blower and flame throwers, you'll blow their Babooshkas back. As they say there, pedal to the wood.

PS, Don't foget to teach the locals important American words and terms such as Hudson, Terraplane, Essex, step down, Twin-H, Monobuilt, center point, Hudsonite, etc. :D
