I am wondering if someone knows all the factory options avaliable on a 1954 hornet. I also want to know if power steering and brakes were avaliable seperately or did you have buy both as a package upgrade. It seems like most everything was an option with Hudson.

here is what I think were some of the options

1. Twin h

2. Turn signals

3. Back up lights

4. windshield washer

5. radio

6. heater/defroster

7. tinted glass

8. white wall tires

9. full size wheel covers?

10. automatic trans

11. oil filter

12. power steering

13. power brakes

14. continental spare tire

15. outside rear view mirrors

16. fog lights

17. door handle and gas door guards

18. window shades

There's an actualy listing of factory and dealer options but in reality if varied month to month and it's hard to say that any two '54's left the factory with exactly the same options given then nature of what was going on that year.
  • FYI, page 78 of Ron Kowalke's book, "Standard Catalog of Independents" shows quite an extensive list of options.

I would say of your list of eighteen, two were standard on the Hornet. Turn signals and full wheel covers.
  • Chris, If you have a 54 owner manual, Hudson generally listed what were options in the back of the manual. you might want to check there as well.
  • We've parted out '54 hornets that had power brakes but not power steering. (unfortunately) I'm sure you could get them separately.

  • You should ad wire wheels to your list. I have a friend who has a 54 Hornet that was originally owned by a Hudson dealer. The car has Hudson factory wire wheels. They are cool to say the least.

When you say wire wheels, are you reffering to the wire wheel hub cap or a kelsey hase style true wire wheel? i have a set of wire hub caps that came with a 54 hornet of mine

Hudson did not use Kelsey Hayes, they look the same, but Hudson used a wire wheel manufactured by Motor Wheel Company. Hudson used the wheel with long spokes that go to the rim. The full wire wheelcover was also available.

I've seen a '54 that had stick with overdrive but factory power brakes. As far as I could tell it left the factory that way.

I thought a fender mounted antenna was a dealer option

Full sized wheel covers were standard on 54 Hornets. Dale Cooper sells a reproduction of the 54 dealer option list. Check out his website
