Historical Society Auction - Rathmann
The HET Historical Society has an annual fund-raising auction in conjunction with the National Meet in Auburn (Friday night). It's always a lot of fun, and members donate GREAT stuff...parts, manuals, collectables, etc. Mary Ann and I are donating a 1:18 Hwy 61 model of Dick Rathmann's Hudson, which I personally had autographed by his brother Jim Rathmann, the oldest living Indianapolis 500 winner (1960). I'm posting a couple of photos of it...its an outstanding model. Mark your calendars to attend.

Rathmann's car was sponsored by Hudson dealer Walt Chapman, and his name appears on the car over the windshield. It's interesting to note that Bill Albright owns Walt's personalized Hornet Convertible...a truly outstanding and historic car. :cool:0

is it the 53 hornet that Bill got at the 87 York, PA nationals? (Walt's old hornet convertible? )
just curious.... seems that car pops up a lot in conversation.
also, I think that while highway 61 did a great job on these hudsons, one they missed that would have been cool, would have been Frank Mundy. Maybe not PC, but would have made an interesting die cast.
I got a 53 coupe, in the green and white, that a certain 5 year old here likes to play with once and a while.0 -

I'd love to have a Frank Mundy, Stars n' Bars with the big 7 in the middle. Nice southern way to say you've got a 7X under the hood, PC or not.

What was really politically incorrect at the time was that Frank Mundy's real name was Francisco Menendez, and he changed it to disguise the fact that he was Hispanic. I wonder if the good ol' boys would have appreciated him as a Mexi-cun...:eek:0
