Got My Hudson Out To Car Show Today

I got my Hudson out today to its first show of the season. Unfortunately the weather here in New England has not been the best this year. It's like we never had a spring.

I had to choose between a Mopar show and another show put on by a local car club. Last year I went to the Mopar show and won first in class. So this year I chose the other car show.

As usual the show was mostly muscle cars of the late sixties and early seventies and street rods. I had the only stock car of the forties, and of course the only Hudson. As usual the Hudson got a lot of attention from the over seventies crowd that remember Hudsons in there day to the the little kids that recognized the Hudson as being a "Doc Hudson".

I always get asked why a Hudson? I tell them that my father and grandfather drove Hudsons. That I grew up in the back seat of a Hudson.

There really is a lot more to owning my Hudsons. Over the last 30+ years I have become attached not only to my cars but to the Hudson community. We are different than the other car clubs. There is a strong loyalty among Hudson owners. I don't believe that you find that in other makes. Hudson people are always willing and able to help each other. The fact that as a club we don't judge our own cars and that we always appreciate a new person joining our community.

I just had to say how I feel about owning my Hudsons.

PS. I also won another trophy. The trophies are presented by people choice and not by judging. That tells me that others also appreciate the quality and beauty of the Hudson automobile.

Congrats to you for getting your car out, so people could see it! I wish more folks would do that. If the public never sees a Hudson, then where do we expect to find enthusiastic new members? The whole "Doc Hudson" thing has really given us one leg up, amongst the pre-teen set. I hope more people will not only show their cars, but stand nearby to answer questions and "talk up" their cars and the Club.
  • I registered Gwen,(my 54 hornet special sedan) for the Moonshine Rod Run here in Newport on the 16th and have scheduled the Smoky Mountain Heartland Chapter June meet there. I don't expect too many Hudsons will show up but at least mine will be there. Last year there were over 600 cars at the show. Two were Hudsons, My 54 and a street rodded 40 coupe from Sevierville TN.
Get them out and let them be seen. I don't expect to win awards. Just the look on the faces of some of the people, as the car brings back memories, is worth more than any trophy.
Last year an elderly lady told me of the brand new Hudson, She and her Husband had driven on their Honeymoon in 1954! Pale green Hornet Special sedan( Just like Gwen ) I let her sit in the car and she seemed to glow as she closed her eyes and remembered those times. That made my year.

    Paul,

I'm not sure who is more handsome looking in the pictures you or "baby". Congratulations on your special prize.
  • Congrats on getting your Hud out hdsn49! I'm with Jon that more people have to get their cars out. And cool that guys are driving their cars to multi-make and rod run/hot rod type shows. That way more people will see the cars and maybe become interested. I think we have a couple member's cars coming out to a cruise night this weekend, besides the one that is always out for the cruise night ('lil plug for ya Tom), and that's cool! Embrace everyone and the club will grow.
  • Congrats to all who drive their Hudsons. Getting them out to crusin ins is a great way to promote interest in these fabulous automobiles. I also want to give congratulations to Paul for his award. It is nice to see that when a car is restored that it doesn't sit in a museum, but is taken on rode trips.
