Door window removal?

I can't seem to figure out how to remove the front door window on my 51 Hornet. I have the body manual, but the description is so vague, it doesn't help. I think I need to remove the vent window first, but I have removed every screw I can find, and no luck. The crank post seems to be holding the process up. I was able to do the rear windows with no issues.

Anyone have a more detailed procedure to follow? I have searched the forum already, and the descriptions I found are almost as vague as the body manual. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don

I tried to do it myself and cracked the new window. My advice is to take it to a glass shop. Vic Zamora in Southern California sells the window channels.
  • pull the vent window first, note the small screw under the rubber at top of vent, undo regulator and let it fall down, then you can pull large glass and change it, reinstall vent window last, BILL ALBRIGHT

    Bill,

I found the screw under the rubber, and the vent window is loose, but the window crank post won't allow the unit to drop into the door. I must still be missing a step. I have had this car since 1980, and the window has always been shattered. I am getting tired of always having the window rolled down whenever I go out for a drive.......

I really appreciate your help. Thanks

  • there is a small lphillips head machine screw that holds the crank assy to vent window post. there is a small lhole in the inner sheet metal that allows you to remove the screw and it will come apart, then pull the vent to the rear of car, at the top of assy and pull it up and out, BILL ALBRIGHT

    Bill,

You should write your own procedure manual. It was easy after your instructions.

    Thanks
