Slot Car track, huge coincidence

I just bought a slot car track off e-bay. Cars themed with Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson - colored like a dirt track.

Who can resist that?

Here's the coincidence. I get the invoice and the handle of the seller is Merrit Marks.

So, while getting the invoice - I asked in the e-mail if he was really Merrit Marks (jokingly).

As it turns out, it in fact was Merrit Marks Jr. Said he was a senior in High School when his dad founded the HET.

I don't know which is neater, buying a miniature race track with a Hudson buzzing around it - or being able to buy it from the founding family of the HET.

  • The kids have been cruising e-bay the rest of the evening, getting acquainted with Tyco, AFX, Aurora and all those slot tracks of the 70's.

Here's a link to some other Cars tracks for sale. Its not major, but the cars will work on the more powerful AC adapted tracks.

  • You Big Kids, You 0000000000000000
  • Now here's the big question, which is faster, Doc or Lightning?
  • I have two questions.

    1. Are we all invited over to play?

    2. Can you purchase additional Hudson cars?
  • Well, as for who's fastest - I'll unleash some of my old Tyco HP-2 tricks and stack the deck in Doc's favor. I used to mess with these things before I got my license.

As for additional Doc's, I'm coming up pretty empty on that one. There is a fella on e-bay selling Docs made from a push car body. I'm hunting for bodies to use on different chassis. There is another guy selling Doc's in plastic bags, presumably robbed from these sets. I kinda don't trust the second fella as he calls them "shot cars".

The guy in Missouri, only has the ones he's made and has to buy a whole set of characters to get this one Doc body that will work. So it gets pricey having to buy the whole movie cast to get one Hudson. But then if you buy the set yourself, you could possibly use one chassis for the whole cast - Mater and all. He does build a nice looking Doc, with a Hot Rodded chassis to boot.

It sure would be neat to have somebody make these bodies so we can doll them up and recreate our favorite roundy rounders.

Sure would be cheaper than building a 7x engine and having a go at it.

Dany would be a good candidate for making slot bodies, being in the plastic molding business and all.

Yes, y'all are invited to play.

    Here's some more coincidences for you;

I have quite a decent collection of slot cars, my favorites being the original AFX Thunderjets (you actually have to drive them).

I was just at the same Merrit Marks house the other day kicking tires...

When are we getting togather to play slot cars?

  • well I'll be darned, small world.

I was a Tyco man, and loved the straight pieces of track more than the curves. The Aurora boys could stick to the track in the curvies, but couldn't catch me on the straights. I was always envious of how cool the AFX cars looked, they were always something neat.

I think I had 6 Tyco cars, most of them ordered from the Sears Roebuck & Co. catalog - usually around November. I only know where my two drag racers are now, a 40 Ford Coupe and a 57 Bel Air (I seriously doubt they still run).

But ya know what, I'll have at least one Hudson pretty soon!

I'm gonna get hooked on this. The kids (and me!) have been passing the laptop across the floor all night looking at tracks/cars/etc. They have concluded the AFX T-jets are the slickest cars out there, always were.
