i know its a shot in the dark but is there any cheap 308s in the northeast, mainly the Pennsylvania area?

The 262 in my car im starting to believe has some problems and i dont really feel like rebuilding it knowing somethings better out there. I was thinking of a small block chevy but a 308 will probably be cheaper(i wouldnt need to change the rear or drive shafts) and get my car on the road faster.

thanks, Sean

  • Okay folks, here's your chance to help save a Hudson from the SBC! lol
  • i have a 308 sitting in scranton PA,drop me an email or PM
  • I am So sick of small block Chevys I could puke!! KEEP it HUDSON!!!
  • I was gonna say that seem the 262's are gaining popularity. I guess the extra RPM that can be had, might be worth the consideration. 308's are great, but what's wrong with a 262? You can make the difference up with less cubes.

I think you can put a 308 crank in a 262 and pick up quite a few cubes. Hudsonkid is right,a lot of people who know Hudsons say the 262 was the best engine Hudson ever made. Rev better, run smoother, don't get hot,run the same ports and valves so their breathing to displacement ratio is better than the 308. Something to kick around.
  • wow seems to be alot of sbc hate haha, i would of gone that way for reliabilty and the easy accsess to parts(just a quick drive to auto zone), but i read some where that the 308 had 170hp and 284pds of torque, that torque number is stunning! So i was thinking with a clifford headers and intake with a 4 barrel, a 262 head it will be a great motor and a stunner at carshows.

Am actually serious about obtaining 262, if you're not going to need or use it. Don't have an 'exact' use for it at the moment, but see it as an opportunity to rebuild an engine that may eventually find its way into one of my Hudson pickups...

it will be a little till i get it out, i invested a few bucks into the motor(tune up parts, carb rebuild, fuel pump rebuild) would like to switch it to the new motor if i aquire one.

I also will be getting rid of a 262 out of a 51 hudson. Ill be parting out the whole car in the near future due to its total lack of floors.

I agree with you. I think to pop open the hood and have a tricked out 308 sitting there would be way cool. But unless I can get Dany Spring to trade the engine out of his coupe (you should hear the way it sounds... it would draw a crowd easy at any car show) for my small block Chrysler, I'll just keep buying my parts at Carquest Auto Parts.

I don't see too many offers for a 308, so you may have to go the way of a SBC! :D

  • Well, it may be a shot in the dark, but you should try eBay. You can search via location, and you might be able to find a deal.

    Good luck!
  • Check Wtn And Hemmings. -john
  • ebay just seems to have rebuild kits and hemmings didnt have anything. Not sure bout Wtn im not a member

yea seem so. Who knows maybe ill have to go the sbc way, look good with a caddy aircleaner and maybe some olds rocket covers give it an old school look. Sbc would make it a good daily ride to replace my monte carlo.
  • There's a recent thread about someone who's apparently found a '54 Hornet parts car w/ a 308 and wanted to know if anyone wants it.
