condensers and solenoids

Are the condensers for the coil and the regulator on a 308 still available from NAPA or other local source ? Probably a lot of other cars used the same one I'm thinking, but is one for 6 volt, positive ground unique, or would something used for 12 volt work too.

Also, does the starter solenoid have to be a 6 volt, positive ground unit, or will any three post solenoid work ?

If they're specific to 6 volt, pos. grnd, where can I order them from?

Maybe Dale Cooper ?

  • Any condensor and 6 volt starter solenoid should be fine.
  • Points & cond will work fine on 12 volts but make sure you have a ballast resistor in series with the coil or your points will only last a week or so. The solenoid will work ok if you have a car with the solenoid mounted on the inner fender panel , a Ford 12 volt unit will bolt right on.
  • He is running 6V.

The starter solenoid is a Standard Motor Products SS-571 or a NAPA ST58. This solenoid was also used by early '50s Fords. The distributor condenser is a Standard Motor Products AL-111X or a NAPA AL869.
  • Free parts interchange reference...
