  • Okay, I've never been under the back of a 1930, but I assume it can't be too different from my 1929 in construction. Check out WTN March/April 2006 page 42 - I just added modern telescopic shocks to the rear of my '29 using the method Geoff describes in this article, which involves using a shock with studs on each end, bolting the upper stud through an existing hole in the frame arch and the lower stud through a piece of angle iron bolted to the rear end U-bolts. I found Monroe PN 32262 to be the right size. My car doesn't ride much better but certainly handles better. I just have a makeshift bracket on there now for proof of concept and I am going to change it to something more elegant. Also, make sure the shackles aren't too tight as this interferes with the action of the springs.
  • Thank you for this tips I´m going to read the artickle and if possible I´m doing to do this

It's a little more difficult on the 1930 models, because of shorter distance, and chassis construction. You need to bolt a bracket to the chassis rail, and mount the shock absorber to this, and angle it forward to get the length you need. Still far superior to the original lever action type. Good luck,

    Geoff.
  • how about the front, anyone have a trick to fit tube shocks with all that mechanical brake stuff in the way?

We went the Lever action shocks way on the front of the '28. They can be found on a variety of British cars from the 40's, 50's & '60's. Geoff Clark described how to fit them in a recent thread here & also named some of the cars that used them. They really improve the road holding!! :-) :-)
  • You could use rebent 51 fordPU, upper shock mounts , and have a pair of lower shock mounts, machined at a machine shop like I did, can send a few pics if you would like
