Well, since you guys were wondering what I have been up to....

I got pictures this time.....

I needed one more day of vacation, so I get to rest up tonight. Just got done, cleaned up, put the tools away....

Here's the first one, air cleaners back on with paper filters, thanks to Dave Sollon, for getting me in the right direction. I think they look great. I saved the oil bath elements for a rainy day. I got a second set to redo, but they are super rough (or at least one of them...)

So you guys might be wondering why I changes the transmission in the first place, other than the OD gain, here's a few pictures that show why....

can you say oil leak????

anyway, the new one is a lot cleaner, hoping all is good with the OD, we will find out....here it is, installed, don't mind the mess of an interior...

Tonight I was going to put the driveshaft in, but while cleaning it up, I checked the U joints, and I felt roughness in the front and rear joint, so I guess hudsondad will have to press three in, once I get the driveshaft painted. The front section is hanging drying, painted black.

Oh well, I guess that's it for the tour...hope you all enjoyed the pictures!!!!

Did you figure what to use as trans mount? If so what was the answer?
  • yeah, I got a shelf mount that was real close. Had to have hudsondad make the holes bigger, but now my old and soft motor mounts aren't doing what they need to. I got to get a set of 2280's for the front to get the motor and trans to set right. mount threaded in, sorta, had to remove the bellhousing. still not 100% ready to give it a thumbs up.... yet.

    will keep everyone posted.

While you've got it torn down to this point, have you checked the bushing in your clutch cross shaft? If it's the original, it's probably noticeably worn, and you'll lose motion in your clutch linkage as a result. Just a thought.
  • Is it the slip on type cylinder looking thing that goes into the paddle assembly on the trans, you know the two paddles to the other two paddles? (great technical terms, huh....) The bushing looks nice and seems pretty firm, meaning there isn't much of any wiggle. It was the original from the OD unit that went back in the car, not the one from ole oilly trans....

I know which one you're talking about. No, I meant the cross shaft thru the frame that your clutch pedal arm would rotate. Just watch the end of the shaft nearest the tranny when you work the clutch pedal, and you'll spot any abnormal (non-radial) movement. Basically, what this does is when you step on your clutch pedal, your foot can move quite a ways before the throw-out bearing starts to actually move, etc. This 'lost motion' takes away from your total clutch 'dis-engagement'.

To access this bushing you have to remove a large circular snap ring to get the cross shaft out, then I believe two bolts hold the bushing flange to the inside of the frame.
  • I will definitely check this!

seems I always thought there was a lot of pedal travel in my clutch, compared to the only other stick hudson I drove, a 54. If this is where I get my pedal travel from, then I will for sure check it out. Best time, now, when the floor pan is out.
  • It looks like a Hudson to me! I like people who post pictures so we can see what they have been up to.

    Thanks Chuck G
