essex super6 28 water temperature

My water temperature gauge is disconnected and I do not know where the sensor/bulb goes on the engine.

where is the best place to fix a new one?

The bulb fits in the head on the left side approx 2/3 from the front. There should be a large nut through which the bulb fits with a securing nut to hold in place and seal the water jacket from the outside. If there is not one there the head may be of an earlier model than 28
