Roof mounted radio antenna?

G'day all,

My Aussie assembled 55 Hornet has never had a radio fitted. All Hashs in Australia never came with a geniune radio. Australian made radios were available but not as good looking compared to the factory radios. I purchased a radio out of a US 54 Hornet about five years ago. It has been checked and tested before I installed it in the 55. Unfortunatly I have yet to connect it to power as I am still deciding on what sort of antenna I should have. I do not want to drill a hole in the front fender. I believe the US Hashs had the antenna on the roof like the stepdowns.

Question 1? As the body is not a true Hudson. Is the 55 antenna the same as the 54's?

Question 2? What parts usually come with the antenna? ei... brackets, wiring, inside handle? etc.

Question 3? If different to stepdowns what is the availability of such arial and how much?

Hidden arial is also an option like the 30's HET stuff.

What should I do?

I like to keep the car 100% correct.

regards

  • 55to 57 antennas are similar to 54s but spacers & shaft length would be different due to different body shell, roof countours etc. Contact Bill A. he's got some parts cars but don't know if he as the antenna you'rwe looking for. Antenna mast & shaft would be one piece, 2 or 3 spacers & some washers would be others, the lead in, escutcheon & knob should be the rest. the lead in is fairly long due to the one piece windshield as ithas to go around it. Also the 55 to 7 radios had two speakers in front, one on each end of the dashboard. The size is 5 X 7 inches, and were hooked in parallel. Good luck. Steve.
