You might have already seen this. It was posted on teh Ol Rodz site. I could never get a picture of the car since it seemed to be covered up every time I went by.

  • That might have been a popular car if Hudson had built it for the public.

Might have been...it's a shame they didn't even build one.

Good point Hal, but even having said that, the creation did look better in person I thought.

Station wagons got really popular in the 60's as the baby boom was in full swing. Many families had a Rambler wagon along with their full size Chevy or Ford but if Hudson did it in '48 they might've once again been ahead of the demand curve as with their compact car. Who knows, it is a stricking woodie wagon though... now we just have to create prototypes of the other cars on that page in Butler's book. LOL I'll do the Limo/town-car. :)
  • wow...WOODY WAGON OF THE YEAR...now and then, what could have been the best looking woody of all time.

Shots of the interior would be great to see as well, does it have a third row of seats?

I have now got pencil to paper to design a 57 Hornet woody wagon, 4 doors, third row of seats, continental spare and retaining the rear fins and without the typical roof line drop like other AMC wagons at the time. I never liked the drop in the roof on AMC wagons, especially the 50's stuff, too much for me.

Doner car is already sitting in the yard, 57 6cyl parts car or the 57 V8 parts car. Both complete. I think the 6cyl will do as it has a higher roof line.

    regards

Dave: I have yet to see mention of the creator or owner.... was it Dick Bell's son's car?

    Thanks

  • Almost looks like the backend of a Packard Woody. Really nice job.

I could be wrong, but I believe the owner is Bill Eggert, and the builder of the car was Dick Bell's son.....
