Went Terraplaning last night

A local church had an after-work car show last night for pre-'81 cars and trucks that had about 70 cars registered. I had not had the TP out in a few weeks (lots of rain, no wipers!), and last night's weather was superb, so out we went. The show was only about six miles away. Pulled up in a lot full of street rods, modifieds, a couple of mild customs, several musclecars...and the Terraplane. Mine was the only completely stock car there! It drew the most attention early, even though it was parked behind a blown BBC '41 Willys coupe! People marvelled at the 212 flat Six, wide whites, stock-style interior and gauges! I was getting a kick out of people guessing what make it is, even though it's on the grille, hubcaps, and the trunk emblem! I heard one guy in his '60s say "Hey, did you see that stock green '38 Chevy pull in?" (pointing to MY car!). My car still isn't completely finished, but I didn't mind. Folks were digging it, and taking pictures of it.

In fact, the DJ they had there asked four of us to talk about our cars to the crowd, one was me and my TP, the guy with the '41 Willys, a guy in a '65 'Vette, and a guy with a '58 BMW motorcycle. Fun night!

Better your T'plane should be thought a '38 Chevy. A friend of mine, the late Jim Fortin, took his Jet to an all brand car show. Lot of people kept refering to it as that "English Ford"!!!! LOL

That's interesting. Similarly wherever I take my '36 Terraplane, it engenders a huge amount of interest............part of it may be the fact that it is a bit "beat-up" and original, people just love the patina as well as the interior original old car smell and upholstery. It looks like the sort of original used car you'd have spotted driving around in the 1960's (in New Zealand that is) except that today it is 2007, another 40 years further on......"Don't touch it" they all say meaning leave it as it is!
