Oil Filter Operation?

I'm new to having an oil filter on my 308. Besides one little hole in the riser tube about 2/3 of the way up, how does oil pass between the inside of the filter element and the riser in the housing that the element seals onto? I have a Fram C3 element.

Thanks!

  • Here's a pretty naked picture of an oil filter install. You can see what line goes where.

If you plan to put an oil pressure gauge on your car, don't use either oil filter tap to install the gauge. The filter is a by-pass filter and you'll not get the correct oil galley pressure. The original oil sender pressure sending unit location is the right place to "T" into for the correct pressure. Located in the block just above the oil pump on the passenger side.

  • Thanks Mark. I didn't realize that these were partial flow flters that need lots of flow restriction to keep pressure up elsewhere. Nice photos of the engine!

    Jon,

I have the same thing on my 308 and did not have the top tightened all the way down when I first started the engine. Ended up with oil all over the ground. It takes a lot to have it pass through but it seems to be working. Good luck with yours.

  • Come on now fellow Hudson lovers, let's not berate Hudson by suggesting that they offered a useless option. Although it may not be on par with todays filters, it's better than no filter at all.

Mark, Love that RED, dont care what color it is. Just add that RED Supercharger and when the Hood is opened THE ALL will CHICKEN-OUT,you wont even have to Start it up.

( When they see under the hood of Casper that RED and Black Turbocharger SHAKES them UP ,then they ask, what is the top SPEED, Then I become HONEST, I say, I Chicken-Out dont have the guts to keep it open long enough YET.

I tapped of one of those galleys for my oil pressure gauge and I run consistantly between 25 and 35 psi depending on engine speed.
