Type of grease for water pump?

Is there any recommended or preferred type/brand of grease to use for lubricating the water pump shaft on a 47 pickup? The service manuals are very specific in their recommendations but I'd like a modern equivalent.

I use any grease used in the marine industry.

.i.e outboard motors etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. As a land-locked prairie guy marine isn't the first thing that pops into mind.
